PlayStation State of Play March 2019 roundup

Last week saw the announcement of PlayStation's State of Play game reveal broadcast, which would be a reoccurring feature that would showcase upcoming games for PlayStation hardware. The 20-minute stream has just ended, and all the news has been compiled below.

  • First shown was an Iron Man title for the PSVR. It'll release this year, developed by Camouflaj Studios.
  • We get to see some footage for the Crash Team Racing remake. PS4 players get exclusive retro character skins.
  • No Man's Sky is getting free PlayStation VR support.
  • PlayStation Worldwide Studios is bringing ReadySet Heroes to PlayStation 4, and will be a local and online coop game.
  • Blood and Truth is another VR game, will launch May 28th.
  • More VR titles shown in a quick roundup trailer, like Jupiter and Mars, Falcon Age, Trover Saves the Universe, Everybody's Golf VR, and more.
  • Sci-Fi thriller game Observation is slated for this summer on PS4.
  • Five Nights at Freddies VR: Help Wanted is headed to the PSVR, a VR re-imagining of the first game.
  • Concrete Genie will release this fall, meaning it has been delayed from its initial release date.
  • First party title Days Gone footage gives us a look at the story and gameplay. You can upgrade your motocycle and fight against dangerous enemies. Launches April 26.
  • Ends on a Mortal Kombat 11 trailer.

wow, that was so interesting! glad sony tries hard to bring new games to their current gen console! i mean wowzers, look at all those exclusives!.... and then look at the good one! (wait, was there one?)

You're acting like PS4 has no good exclusives & that this was the first announcement of titles after its initial release. Did you or anyone else think they were going to show a half hour full of previously unannounced AAA games? PS4 is nearly finished with its life cycle, what more were you expecting that hasn't already been announced?

This is a fair point. All I want now is that new MediEvil game and for the FF7 Remake to finish development, whether it turns out good or not.

And then I want PS5 to be backward-compatible with PS4 games, no reason it shouldn't be.

Should have copied Directs all the way from the messages and presentation. Specifically say this direct is heavy-VR from the get go, and less robotic speech, might as well make it cringe like all the conferences, worth it for the show.

I guess for the first episode it was okay, I applaud them for sticking with VR conservatively at least.

Nintendo has been kicking butt lately with their Directs. Sony should have used them as a guide, but I'm guessing they simply don't have enough quality content to talk about....

Also rap music and Mortal Kombat = horrible combination! Stahp it Midway!
At least the first part was better.

Those titles are surely going to the PS5 as well. If MediEvil isn't just changing consoles altogether.

That's a good point.

jesus, this was the content they wanted to show of their new type of commercials off with? this was borderline depressing, nobody gives a shit about PSVR
Well, even just base on this thread, that isn't true.

Yr buying a ps5 to play ps5 games thers no need for backward compatible plus thers a reason company's may not do it as it wants gamers to focus on the new ps5 games and help boost sales

The only reason it made sense not to do backwards compatibility on PS4 is because PS3 had a unique architecture. PS5 will likely be AMD architecture just like PS4, so not including backwards compatibility would simply seem lazy. People want to be able to trade in their console for an upgrade without losing access to all their existing games. For people who didn't own a PS4, it just widens the library of playable games on their new system, and boosts overall sales as a result.

As said sony dont want gamers going into bargain bins looking for cheap ps4 games they've had ther day they want attention on selling ps5 games - and it's like if parents buying games for ther kids and finds out it plays ps4 games they may look at those games as it's a cheaper option

You might care if PS4 games continue to sell more than some PS5 launch titles, but I can guarantee you that Sony does not care. The money all comes back to them. More sales are never a bad thing.
