Got a problem similar to others I've seen, but have had no such luck with fixing it.

Everything has worked fine ever since I first installed cfw about 5 or 6 months ago. I had played gba roms using VC injects, but they have always been un-reliable, so I installed mGBA. I put it into sleep mode in mGBA while I was playing and then came back and it would not come back on. Maybe there was a button combination I was supposed to hit to get the screen back on, but I couldn't figure it out. I tried to go home or simply click the power button, no luck. Only thing I could do was hard reset.

I turned the thing back on after hard resetting and I had quite a few app boxes turned into black boxes (FBI, Anemone, Homebrew Launcher, stuff that comes when you install luma)

I've heard it is something to do with the NAND memory, but have had no luck in getting it working.

I went into the luma menu and turned the system health information into another homebrew launcher to try and launch FBI there, but it just freezes the 3ds.

Any ideas?

@Heigw,
  1. Copy everything off your SD card onto a computer.
  2. Reformat in FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size with Windows File Explorer or with guiformat if the card's bigger than 32 GB.
  3. Full Write + Verify the empty card with H2testw. Do not skip this step.
Report back your scan results on the hardware condition of your card.

Sorry it took me so long, i'm on mac and deleted wine a looong time ago. Took me a bit to re-install and figure out how to work it.

Warning: Only 29832 of 29835 MByte tested.

Test finished without errors.

You can now delete the test files *.h2w or verify them again.

Writing speed: 20.1 MByte/s

Reading speed: 89.0 MByte/s

Oh, eh... For future reference, you can use F3X which is basically the Mac version of H2testw. Other than the 3 MB that was unaccounted for, your SD card is presumably in good working condition.

Insert the SD card back into the 3DS, turn on the system, hold (SELECT) to access Luma3DS configuration. I would like you to verify if the (x) Disable ARM11 exception handlers option was enabled. If so, deselect it without the marked x like this;
  • ( ) Disable ARM11 exception handlers
This feature ignores ARM11 errors and allows them to get worse. Previous users have stated their games disappearing from HOME Menu and softbricks due to it.

If this option was not turned on and the problem persists, you may want to F3X/H2testw another SD card and use that one with a clean setup. This will help to determine whether your SD reader is faulty or going bad.

Other than that, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ shit happens.

While unfortunate incidents like this one can occur out of the blue, you can reduce the risk of data loss by periodically backing up your game saves + extdata with Checkpoint or JKSM. Make sure you move those backups off the card onto computer for more safety.

I've had this randomly happen a couple of times but it always went away after updating the 3DS firmware and CFW.
If you're already up to date, it could be that you've accidentally installed some CIAs to NAND which are supposed to be on SD, it should not be possible with newer FBI versions as they autodetect the install location and don't (to my knowledge) allow you to choose it manually anymore. Only FBI 1.x made you choose the install location, and that's ancient. But you can have a look at the title list in FBI and see if any homebrew or non-built in games show up in red text. Only built in apps and system titles should show up in red.

I will check tommorow. Unfortunately checkpoint was one of the ones that got raped. Fortunately, the dumps were still there. Tomorrow if I still can't get them back im thinking of just resetting from that dump.

Update you then.

Alright, I couldn't do anything with it. The ARM11 exceptions handler was and is enabled (the box unchecked.) What exactly do you mean by a "clean setup?" Are you talking about a clean sd card, just re-install luma and that's it?

Just another question, is there another way to just re-install the cias that were there (FBI, Checkpoint, Anemone, etc) without FBI? I don't have anything to install anything with right now, unless I used .3dsx files and used the homebrew launcher (if it even worked, as I said it just freezes/crashes when I try and load FBI with it.) Could I maybe re-install them using GM9? I'm not hopeful, but might as well ask. Not like I don't look like enough of a noob already xD

Box unchecked ( ) = disabled = This is what you want.

Clean setup means you start with a blank SD card and add back items piecewise like Nintendo 3DS, 3ds, boot.firm, boot.3dsx, themes, roms, etc.
  • bold = folder
  • Courier New = file
Anything that was corrupted you FBI delete and reinstall. For HOME Menu games that weren't previously backed up with a save manager and can't be seen due to messed up import.db and title.db, you will need to perform this guide:

You cannot reinstall their CIAs before extracting the SAV files, or you'll overwrite delete the original saves. Ignore the part about checking the titles in System Settings with marked grey X's. Your issue isn't missing tickets but *.db database files that had their HOME Menu listing corrupted.

Either GodMode9 inject FBI in Health or Safety -or- Rosalina Menu inject Homebrew Launcher in a system title.
