Since this is on-topic about network speed and quality streaming. Let me actually explain how the heck Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) works and how it may affect this application. Since some previous post made my poor network technician heart bleed.
Local Area Network: A LAN is your home network (simplified). Your iPhone, your laptop, your iPad, your Alexa, your Switch, your PC, etc that is connected to your router. In this example all the devices are connected to 1 router, it support both Ethernet (often called lan, it's incorrect but whatever) and Wifi. All of these devices can talk with each other, without Internet access. Your ISP have nothing to do with your LAN and if they do, you need another router. A router, is the gateway for your internet access. So your PC can talk with example GBAtemp, or surf your naughty piracy sites. Or even send an email.
Wide Area Network: A WAN is the internet in lay mans terms. (still simplified) It's that simple, it's the cloud, the big INTERNET the big Word behind the screen. A WAN can be built on a lot of things, but to make things simple. You are connected to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) with your home router. The router is the gateway for your LAN to speak too the WAN.
Your iPhone for example is connected to your Telephone provider via 3/4G and is therefore is directly connected to the WAN.
So too summary it all,
No. This application works via LAN. You can use magic tricks with VPN so you can use it on a WAN but it isn't really made for it nor recommended.
For the BEST possible streaming you need this:
1) A good router and a powerful one. 5GHz AC is recommended.
2) A none nerfed router.
3) Using Ethernet is ALWAYS preferable so if you stream with your computer use, a Ethernet cable between your PC and ROUTER.
4) Your PC need to be a beast for the best possible quality.
