Having read so many posts, I'm now even more confused! Lol
Got my daughter a switch, 4.10 out of the box (patched serial), however it won't let me link the console, login online or even play Mario party without first updating it! (Currently updates blocked via DNS)
Damn thing is so frustrating, literally won't let you do anything without first updating it!
Do I update to 6.20, link console etc and then block updates or is there something I'm missing that I could do now?
Not even sure you can back nand on a virgin switch.
You can backup the NAND using Hekate. If you update it via official means (Change the 90DNS DNS configurations back to default), it will burn fuses on the inside, making it impossible* to downgrade (may be wrong. I think they came up with a way to downgrade it via hacking that wouldn't check the fuse count). You can still hack it on 6.2.0 (latest firmware) though.

But yes, if you want to go online, you have to update it, either officially, or unofficially through the means of ChouDujourNX. Even then, I don't know if its safe to go online after unofficially updating it via the ChouDujourNX program.

Edit: Best practice is to have 2 consoles. 1 to do your hacking on, and one to play online.

Not currently until pegaswitched is updated for the newer systems which should be soon (since you have a patched serial) Use 90DNS to block connections

DO. NOT. UPDATE. - Pegaswitch only works up to 6.0

Thanks, so just to get this right, I can back up the nand on a patched switch using Hekate?
Is there really any benefit to downgrading right at this time? Currently there's not a lot i can do on it without updating which is really annoying! I can't believe it won't let me use an sdcard without updating. What a farce!

Wrong. He has a patched console.
That's what I was thinking. So my original question stands, should I update to 6.2 in order to set console up, registering, linking etc and then block updates for future?
Obviously I'd burn efuses in the process.

Well you didn't tell me if you see the Hekate logo or not when you send Hekate as a payload.
Check to see if AutoRCM is still enabled with either Hekate or briccmii.
Strangely, you're not the first with this unit. But since we've never heard about XFL units up until yesterday, we don't know. Although given they are most likely a recent appearance, they are probably patched.
So any Idea how I can fix this? Its really hiting me on mely nerves having to inject reinx twice evry single time eich means disconect from pc and conect twise

Yes.
Hello everyone,

I have just landed here and i couldnt be more confused about how you play backups on a switch. The only thing i know is that the games come in xci or nsp format and that is all.

Can you please guide on what is the safest way/safest software and the best practices to not be banned.

Much appreciated
Thanks

What program do you use to send payloads?

What's a good place to buy a jig to get the Switch into recovery mode? I understand I can make my own, but it just seems simpler to have a jig and call it a day.

I just picked up R4S dongle, how do i make it use SX OS payload? thanks!
Their website has pre-converted payloads for usage with their dongle but the latest for SX OS is V2.2. If you open their manual, it has instructions on how to convert any payload which you could use for the latest SX OS version or any other version you want.

eBay and AliExpress are the places I hear for buying anything related to Switch hacking.

I am in vacation with a friend of mine, and we want to play SSBU together. Is there a way to extract my version of installed SSBU and install it somehow to his switch? like NSP packer or something

You can just share the game with your account. Just add the account linked to the game on his console and then have his console download the game from the eShop. If you want to do it with CFW, you can either dump the game yourself with SD to NSP (contrary to the name, you can dump from the NAND) or find one of those illegal copies floating on the web.

When I do a full nand backup, do i need to back up the gpp partitions aswell?
The raw eMMC GPP is comprised of two partitions, eMMC SYS and eMMC USER. SYS is basically the System 32 of your console while USER is your actual free space to install content. For people who are conscious of space, it might be worthwhile to only dump eMMC SYS because it is much smaller than the eMMC GPP (about a 26 GB difference) but in doing so, you'll lose all of your progress and games when you restore the eMMC SYS.
