How do you deal with losing at a video game?

Weather you're playing alone or with someone else, against someone else, losing happens sometimes. Some people can just shrug it off like it was nothing or others will have... "salty rage quits!" If you are one of these people or not doesn't matter, cause losing is not always a positive feeling. So I wanted to know how do you handle it. Have you mentally reinforced your mind to deal with it? Do you just play games you know you can't lose at to avoid it? Do you just stop playing, or do you keep playing until you are satisfied?

Playing solo or with others locally, I'd usually shrug it off, I never really take games seriously when playing with friends tbh. Playing online, I wouldn't get salty, but consistently losing will usually cause me to take a break for a few days, maybe even a week or two.

I know when I was a kid I threw my Super Nintendo controller a few times, particularly after losing the same Super Mario World level 10+ times.

I've slammed my mouse on my desk a few times, but that's about as violent as I get.

Multiplayer or not, I stopped playing competitively a long ago and only play for fun nowadays, so I just shrug it off.
However I dislike when other people take games way too seriously and start raging/being salty, especially if spamming chat or screaming in voicechat, so in that case I won't hesitate to be a bit asshole-ish just to see how bad it can get... or how long it'll last before the guy gets votekicked/banned :^)

I don't really play anything competitive online because I don't like those kind of games anyway. Mostly because too many people take it way too seriously and it's hard to just have fun. If I lose (usually against a COM Player since I don't play much online), I might play again or just drop the game and do something else. There's never any go-to reaction for me, just depends on my mood.

Lose? A video game???!!! NEVER!!!!!!! Just to make sure to never lose a game, all I ever play are farmville-style games where the narrator marvels at my superior strategic positioning of my coleslaw field and then faints at my genius tactical decision to water it. Yeah...take THAT, world! NOW WHO'S ON TRACK FOR WORLD DOMINATION, EH???!!! B-)

Ahem...in all seriousness: I mostly just shrug off a loss. To me, the win- or lose state is but the outcome of all the time before it, and what matters is whether THAT was fun. And that usually was, because I don't keep playing games that I don't like. And no, being on the losing side doesn't mean I like it less. That is just when I get the feeling that me playing well or not isn't an influence.

An example on that: in one of those wiiu mario party games, I decided to just try out a match. You know the kind: roll dice, play a bit of minigames, roll more dice, and a virtual snakes and ladders thingy. Now...I managed to win all the minigames (about 5 or 6), but due to bad luck on the dice I ended up last. Result: I felt kind of :glare:. It was the last time I played it...or ever will again.

It's pointless to get angry or violent for losing at a game - you're only being angry at yourself... learn from how you lost and improve.

...or scream, shout, break something, input some cheats and fuck the game up for everyone else.

violence to an object, i only do it when i want an excuse to upgrade or its taking too long to replace that object for a better one ;O;

anyway i am a bad loser in general.. when i lose a competitive match online, i get depressed, and start to cry that i am already a big loser in real life, that this is so unfair because if i am such a bag of trash in real life, why am i also a huge bag of trash in a trendy game
then i embrace for a moment that i am gonna always be a bag of trash both in real life and in gaming and repeat the story
but i dont get violent or that.. just disapointed about myself

When I lose at a video game, I just think "Fu*K, I screwed up, let's try again!" No violent behaviour whatsoever. I once saw a friend of mine throw his controller at the wall when i was beating him badly at Tekken. I was amazed he was reacting that way. Didn't make sense to me. It's just a game. Playing for fun.

Hm closest thing to raging at a game I had was just, me putting my headphones down, shutting down the game, dive into bed burying my head in the pillow. Thinking what went wrong, how can I improve. Stopped gaming for that day and the next one I was just playing the same game again.

I have an aversion to swearing, so the angriest I'll get is like, 9-year-old-kid-speak angry,

"Freakin'...cheating jerkfaces with their cheap stupid cheating lame jerkfaced whatever! I don't care!!"

and then I'll sigh and move on and forget about it after 10 minutes.

@The Real Jdbye, I thought about that and I have blank DVD's and Blurays but honestly after like 90 songs I just listen to it a couple of hundred times toss it out and burn something else or have like 2-3 CD's. Florida here the heat in the car tends to ruin the CD's after like a few months even commercial pressed ones don't last too long.
