I have two gateways and used them until sun and moon, they still didn't support sun and moon without doing few things first.
after that i bought sky3ds plus, it took 6 months for them to support ultra sun and moon but at least they came back. I didn't have any problem after that.

Their customer support comes in the form of buying the Stargate 3DS flashcart, which has its own myriad of problems.
If you have a EUR / JPN / USA system on 11.8 firmware that has access to Nintendo eShop and working DSi mode, you can hack your 3DS for free using Frogminer.
According to my knowledge, gateway 3ds is only working on firmware version lower 9.3. Sky3ds+ and Stargate 3ds, they are working on your firmware/.
gateway works up to 11.2
you can use gateway with emunand up to 11.8 using unofficial method as can be found here, although some people warned not to accidentally boot to sysnand with firmware above 11.2
