Team-Xecuter Presents SX OS v2.3 BETA

TX is on roll, release after release, and today's big release is brand-new SX OS v2.3 BETA
SX23.jpg

As you read thru TX's announcement below, you will quickly see that is jam-packed with all the features you have been requesting recently like SD EmuNAND and USB Homebrew, so check it out below:
Your favorite superheroes from Team Xecuter are back with another SX OS update.

In v2.3 beta of SX OS we have some exciting new functionality that you, the community, has been requesting a lot. As you know, we value your feedback and support.. so your wishes are our command!

Let's have a look at the changelog:
  • SD emuNAND support
Since the introduction of our emuNAND feature we got a lot of comments about our initial decision to make the emuNAND data live on the actual system NAND. After lots of hard work we are happy to say we now have a workable solution for storing your emuNAND partition data on your microSD card. This has the upside of not using up any space on your Switch. In order to use the new microSD emuNAND system you will *not* have to format your microSD card. Simply enter the TX boot menu by holding Volume-+ while powering on your switch. Head into the options menu and select emuNAND on the left. Users of our existing emuNAND solution will see an option to migrate their existing emuNAND data. The migration process also cleans up the old emuNAND from the system NAND. Painless! We're interested in hearing your feedback about this exciting new functionality.
  • The 'Emutendo' folder
In addition to the new microSD emuNAND system we also introduce the 'Emutendo' folder on your microSD card. As you've probably noticed, the Switch saves various data to a 'Nintendo' folder on your microSD card. To completely decouple this data between your Original Firmware and your EmuNAND enabled firmware we have made EmuNAND enabled systems use this differently named folder. If you want keep using your old SD card data with your emuNAND, simply copy/rename the 'Nintendo' folder to 'Emutendo'.
  • Added more directories to scan for content
By popular demand we have added yet another list of subdirectories that will be scanned on your microSD card (or USB harddisk) for XCI/NSP/homebrew. The directories that have been added are:
    • – /sxos/updates
    • – /sxos/dlc
    • – /switch/updates
    • – /switch/dlc
  • Homebrew menu takeover of any title by holding R
Homebrew is usually launched from either the TX menu or the Homebrew Launcher menu. Both of these applications run as an 'applet' on the Switch. Applets do not have access to all of the system's memory, and thus any homebrew apps or games launched from here are affected by this as well. The only way to allow full use of the system's memory was to build and install homebrew NSP files. But now we have added another way to give homebrew applications full memory access! You can now hold the (R) button while launching any regular title, and this will launch the Homebrew Launcher Menu. Any homebrew launched from here will run with the same capabilities as a regular Switch game/app. Enjoy!
  • Loading homebrew from USB
More good news for homebrew lovers. You can now copy homebrew NRO files to your USB harddisk as well, and launch them directly from our SX OS menu.
  • Stability improvements
Overall stability of many components has been improved. This includes LayeredFS and USB incompatibilities. We have also fixed a bug which would prevent people from launching more than 32 titles.
  • libusbfs update
Last but not least a small update for developers. We've squashed a small bug in libusbfs pertaining the stat() function. If you had issues with this, grab an updated copy of libusbfs from our website!
The year 2018 is entering its final months. That does not mean we're taking a break from working on our beloved SX OS though. And yes, also those new 'unhackable' consoles are high up on the agenda. Don't worry, we will deliver.

Keep sending your feedback and ideas, they're very welcome.

See you all in the next update!

Hey guys, quick question. If I install emunand on my SD card, rename my current "nintendo" folder to "Emutendo", does this mean I won't have to re-install all my .nsp on my newly created emunand? I was planning on doing this and then flash my nand with my 5.1.0 nand backup to keep the nand clean and exactly the way it was before I starting messing around with SXOS. (I'm still on 5.1.0 currently so the fuse count is good)

Why are you copying the files?
Everything should be done automatically
I mean copying BOOT0 and BOOT1 and renaming from hekate backup to SX emunand folder as it works as a fix for other ppl instead of using SX OS created boot0\1.bin files...

I will try later with Fat32 as I'm lazy at the moment.

Just to make sure I have all the steps correct.

1. Backup saves with Checkpoint
2. Reformat Switch
3. Install emuNAND
4. Boot into sysNAND and reformat the Switch again to unlink the NANDs

After that, I can just update my emuNAND with ChoiDujourNX and through the normal Nintendo way on my sysNAND in the future.

Correct?

After formatting the M-SD to Fat32 emunand is working...

I updated emunand to 6.1.0-4.0 (6.1.0).

But now on OFW 3.02 when I insert my Zelda gamecard I get the following error:

_20181125_060408.JPG
(I had Zelda gamecard between doing all steps, but it only got screwed after updating emunand to 6.1)

What does it mean? Did my game card reader got updated?

I used ChoiDujourNX and removed the option to prevent e-fuse burning aka RCM to update emunand... I also used exFat that I don't have on my OFW.

ps: wasn't SX OS emunand supposed to prevent Game Cart reader from being updated?

Hey I was wondering if you guys new. That if team excuter, was working on a way to auto boot into emuand, or will we always be using the donagle? Maybe I’m misinformed, however the only way I see is by soldering a chip in the back of the switch.

As far as i'm aware, the game cart reader is not updated as long as you don't have a game in there whilst in emunand.

Nope.
SX OS does have the ability to prevent GC firmware update, but it is not officially documented.

The exact details of how it supposedly works is here:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/does-sx-os-prevent-updating-game-card-firmware.517892/#post-8285354

But the gist is, as long as you NEVER insert a gamecard (and have an active SX OS license) while running FW 4.x+, then you can avoid a GC FW update.

If you have a gamecard inserted, then you'll get hit with the update.

I had Zelda gamecard between doing all steps
If you mean you had the gamecard inserted the whole time, then yeah, you got your GC FW updated.

You were supposed to keep the gamecard slot empty whenever you ran any firmware version 4.x+

Yeah I meant inserted, didn't even remember that info, but it probably doesn't matter much, even if coldboot or warmboot happens for like 3.01 and if it happens to need a game save, I probably could still use SX OS CFW with a downloaded game instead to hack the console later...

Sadly I couldn't even download a game to test SX OS, my router either got hacked and they screwed it's software or it just went bad on the hardware side as it has around 10 years already...

Well, don't lose hope yet.
Apparently, it might eventually be possible to eventually downgrade the GC firmware, according the posts made by CTCaer (current Hekate dev) which I quoted in this post.

It's just that they haven't reverse engineered the GC completely yet (just like they haven't RE'd the TSEC which is used to secure the new 6.2 update).

---

Also, it's funny, while I was searching for that post where I quote the possibility of downgrading GC firmware, I found the thread where you said:
From what I read if you update emunand with ChoiduJour it doesn't update gamecard reader FW.
Guess you discovered the hard way it doesn't work that way. :P

Too bad too, in page 1 of that thread, I actually also posted a quote on how it supposedly works exactly that you must've skipped over, you could've read it and saved your GC v1 slot.

Hey guys, is there any sure fire guide with all info as far as how to set up Emunand properly? I just updated from SX OS 1.9 to 2.3 beta and when I boot up CFW with Emunand enabled, none of my NSPs work that were installed previously to the SD card. I can still seem to go into my album and mount my XCI files but what can I do about all of my existing NSPs?

The other post was funny :).

And yeah I kinda barely read a tut or that other thread... I kinda already knew how I would use ChoiDijourNX and didn't read much about updating the emunand :(.

And about the GC FW, do you know if it's kinda standard 4 everyone or will it also have locked info unique to each console? Hope they find a easy way to flash it back to before FW4.0 status...

There's not really much public info about the GC FW other than the posts CTCaer made that I quoted in the link above.

If you are worried the that a future warmboot exploit would require both a downgrade and the gamecard, well... deja vu, the unreleased exploit, works for 4.1, so your updated GC slot can still work on that version.

It just sucks that it there's no current way to downgrade it.

I'm on 3.02 and I'm way more interested in 3.01 coldboot if it ever happens...

Since both 3.01 and 3.02 share the same e-fuse, in theory I can go back to 3.01.

But the warmboot if they can trigger it very easily without much needed to launch it, I would be happy with it...

In my 3DS I still use GW emunand and the way to warmboot it is so easy that I don't even bother installing the other coldboot exploits.

Rename Nintendo folder to Emutendo for Emunand
