What is it that forces you to install all updates/dlc to either internal memory (which mine is now full) or my SD Card? Why are you unable to install them from your external drive?

It might be future possible in a TX update they have got usb write support working there is no reason why it cannot be done.

THat function will be not available because install software to USB is very complicated to switch system and file director. the possible to corrupt games and file will be higher than normal.

TX's XCIs are emulating carts, not e-shop installs. All they work they've done is redirecting access to the game card, nothing at all about access to NAND or SD. So its quite a different beast, don't expect support soon if ever.
theres a tool that you can use to add the updates and dlc directly into the XCI file
