The POKÉMON Detective Pikachu movie featuring the world-famous electric rat and co. just had its first trailer released! POKÉMON Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the voice of the titular character in the first-ever live-action movie based on the Pokémon brand. The movie releases in theaters May 11, 2019.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

The movie is directed by Rob Letterman (“Goosebumps,” “Monsters Vs. Aliens”) with the visual effects handled by Moving Picture Company (“Wonder Woman”) and Framestore (“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”) while Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the movie outside of China and Japan.

What are your thoughts about the first trailer?

Thank God they gave Pikachu a different voice. I can never take the game seriously because of that lmao

Okay that looks better (and/or less stupid) than a "live action Pokemon movie with a talking Pikachu" has any right being.
I thought the same thing, with the volume off. Otherwise, that is definitely the wrong voice for Pikachu, and the whole thing sort of looks and sounds like a kid-friendly version of Ted mixed with the Power Rangers reboot.

I really do believe they should stop making movies based off video games in Hollywood.

Gotta say I really like how they redesigned the Pokemon to be close to what they would look like in real life.
I would be all over the place if one of the games took this premise and went on to it for a more serious Pokemon game.

it reminds me the Jasse&James 's Meow, that one in particular is able to speak to everyones, while all wild ones can't, can anybody explain it?

It was explained in a episode. Meow learned to talk English and walk in two legs at the cost of two Pokemon move slots. Hence why he can't learn Pay Day or win fights without cheating.

Yeah that's more or less the canon reason.

You mean 4 moves per every pokemons, then 2 of 4 are English and Walk on 2 feet? WTF? lul

These guys at Warner Bros really like furries

This is the hairiest Pikachu I've ever seen.

I remember Pikachu belong to the family of mice, and mice are furry

There's some serious uncanny valley stuff going on there. Other than that, looks good and I'll definitely watch it.
Looks surprisingly good! Although the CGI is a bit uncanny but what could you expect tbh. Also I'm a bit interested in the reasoning behind this movie being WB and the Mario movie being illumination. Other than the fact that nintendo and game freak are two different companies, and WB has worked with pokemon in the past, and mario is getting his theme park section in universal, what possible reason could there be?!
Illumination doesn't do live action. They don't exactly have the best track record for animation either, so that Mario movie could easily be a flop.

Cute, but no. Just read the wiki page and it'll tell you everything you need to know about Mewoth.
One day, Meowth came across a female Meowth named Meowzie. She rejected him, saying that he was poor and that she preferred humans, so Meowth attempted to make himself more human-like to make her love him. Thus, he painstakingly taught himself to speak human language and walk upright like a human. When he approached her after this transformation, she once again rejected him, calling him a freak. Heartbroken, Meowth remembered the first human word he understood—"rocket"—and was inspired to join Team Rocket.

Not really the visual style that I could ever enjoy. I would have gone with a full Pixar-like CGI style at most. But this is just cruelty to my eyes.

I wouldn't hate on anyone who does like those visuals, though. It all comes down to taste, I guess.
