there are some X which are region free too.
unless there's a full database of all "X" region games, to sort them to proper region, I can't do and automatic region detection.

edit:
there are effectively a lot of PAL games using X for "multi language", but if the console uses "X" as region free, it means the "PAL using X" release also works on other region consoles, it doesn't mean it's PAL only.
but I can set "X" to PAL, seeing there are probably more "multi" than "real region free" (same title id for all region) releases.

example : DDWX18, R38X78, are not PAL.

Yeah there are tons of them that are PAL X and in the first post I forgot that I was talking more about GameCube than Wii, and GC doesn't have region free games, all of them are region locked. Y is also shows region free, but they are pal too, as example:

I can set gamecube games to PAL, and wii games to region free, or "???" or anything else, as there are some PAL and some not PAL on Wii.
Y is not region free, it's another Region ID for duplicate release but with other languages (same as X for gamecube games).

GHSP69 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PAL)
GHSX69 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PAL)
GHSY69 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PAL)

Thanks for the reply Cyan, I always use port 0 but on r1260 it freezes up on "mounting to slot 1" while loading. im using v10 r52 cios as well. I was reading up that the mounting to slot 1 was a bug that was fixed in later versions so that's why i switched to the latest r1268.

I think that there are more Wii X games that are PAL than the few alternate NTSC editions, as example from my collection:
Marked region free but Is a PAL ITA/FR Multi 2:
https://www.gametdb.com/Wii/RHQX4

This also is marked region free but is PAL MULTI 3 ITA PT ES
https://www.gametdb.com/Wii/S3IYA4

And is counterpart with the X is a PAL MULTI 3 FR DE GR
https://www.gametdb.com/Wii/S3IXA4

yes, there are more, but if I set X to PAL just because there are more then someone else like you will come and tell me USBLoaderGX is doing things wrong because HIS game should be NTSC and not PAL.
there's no real solution, unless using a full database of all TitleID/Region couple. I don't plan to do that.

One of the Prince of Persia games uses "X" as the region code in the title ID, too. AFAIK there's only one edition of the disc. It works on NTSC/PAL and contains multiple languages.

Hey GreyWolf and Cyan, this is just an annual appreciation post, I dont even use my wii anymore because I jumped ship for dolphin tbh, still I'm super impressed by how dedicated you both are on this project. You've created a system that works so much better than most thought possible. Your commitment is truly inspiring and for that I'll probably keep up with your progress here as long as you keep at it! Good work and good luck to both of you.

I guess the most accurate method is to lookup wiitdb.xml for every title displayed but then I am not sure how much overhead (coding, lookup time etc) is required for a mostly "display only" attribute. I myself knows exactly what games i have and never play attention to that. In fact I seldom venture out of the main grid display - but thats just me.

Wich one? I cannot find it in redump or gametdb.
I'm just curious :)

EDIT @Cyan What if I provide the complete list of all the few NTSC-U games that are X to be used as an exception to PAL?

Is it possible to use the new larger size SD cards to load backups in the Wii now or no? I have a friend that only plays a few Wii games and some rooms so I don't want to make them spend a bunch of money on a HDD they will never fill.

Not with USB Loader GX. You have to use wiiflow or Configurable USB loader to do that.

Yes, but it must be formatted in FAT32 with 32 kb clusters instead of exfat, and remember that SD loading is a lot slowly compared to an hard drive loading.
Thanks! It won't matter to much I think because my friend is only a light gamer, like animal crossing and Mario, maybe a lego game

I don't plan to change it for the moment, but thank you for the time you spent doing it.
Where do you put the Wii region free games? at least sand of time seems region free, the disc work on all wii region. And maybe even all games with an "x" for the region are actually really region free, as it's how the console is designed to accept/reject games from other regions.

Try one of your game disc with an X that you list as PAL, on a NTSC-U console to verify. (any region changer)
I understand that you mean some X are released only in PAL region, but that doesn't change the fact that they are region free.

Reading the description on wiibrew it seems that the console will be downgraded to 3.2, so I'm backing up my nand first (bootmii on boot2).
I will let you know :)
