so is it harder to use or easier to use now? hold items were removed, does that make it easier? random battles removed, does that make it harder? it seems kind of like a case of "this is not what i am used to" approach. i feel like even if it is a good game, it doesn't stand a chance.
edit: they didn't just remove stuff either. they added alolan forms, a dimension, graphics. i'm willing to sacrifice the tedium of random battles for a fresh new look.
Huge massive counter point.
1. Alolan forms
I really can't believe your trying to say this is addition. That's like saying because I can catch pikachu in gen6 that I should be greatful. It's not a NEW addition. You build upon a squeal and or learn from them. So being able to catch Alolan pokemon in some shape is not anything special.
2. Graphics
What is the most noticeble difference between the 3ds and switch?
If you answered graphics and processing, then there you go.
It's like saying we should be grateful that graphics improve over console generations and mark that as a key feature. Even though really the graphical jump is because of the hardware and it's limits. (3ds limits being pushed in it's case and switches found power)
Now let me bring my reasoning that has made me fall from the pokemon franchise. (not just let's go. But the series itself)
Please! Stop Holding My Hand
This is by far the worst thing. It's the main reason I don't come back to sun and moon for repeat play through. (even with gen7. Which I come back to rarely) If your going to have a tutorial, let us, the player, have the option to skip it. And if not that. Then have some sort of hyper fast forward option that let's you speed up cutscenes and/or battles. And brief talk on items. I don't see any good reason to remove holdable items. It wasn't like you needed it, but certainly added depth if you knew what your were doing.
Rival? what's that?
Rival characters don't feel like rival characters anymore. ESPECIALLY with let's go pokemon games. Just seeing
"Meet your friendly rivial" leaves a already bitter taste in my mouth all the much worse when I remember gen7.
Gen7 wasn't bad, it had some good themes, good pokemon. And a interesting story concept. Failed in execution though. But, rivals really didn't exist. You where more battling your friends than anything else. Which lost the impact on me. Gen5 kind of began it. But because of it's story, I didn't see Cheren or Bianca as my rivial. I saw N as my rival. Which is quite sad when you realize, Cheren and Bianca are the intended rivials. Not N.
Why is rivals important and what is a good rival?
My mind instantly goes to a particular character. And that rival is from heartgold and soulsilver.
He isn't entirely evil as he doesn't like team rocket. But he has a clash in ideals compared to yours. He see's you as unworthy to handle pokemon, and serveral other things I can't list off my head. But not only that, but the first time you encounter him, no just see him. He is in your home town. And you don't know what he is up to as he looks into the pokemon lab. So when you find out he stole a pokemon from Elm's lab. You IMMEDIATELY have a reason to beat him. Because elm gave you your pokemon, so you feel wronged because he wronged elm. And this right here, the idea of a clash of ideals, or having some type of personal reasoning is the entire reason a rival works. You want to beat your rival. And so when your rival does something that you don't like, it makes you want to beat him even more. He get's cocky and says you can't win. That makes you want to win. Which is why gen7 and are so difficult for me to get into. Because there really isn't anything to keep me in the pokemon world.
Story and it's importance.
pokemon games do kind of need a story. Which I find black and white, aka gen5 to have one of the most interesting ones. While gen7 did try. The problem was execution with it. But in gen5, there is build up for everything that is told, and learned. Which gen7 rushes it a bit, screwing up a bit of the foundation it was aiming for. And then gen8 comes by, and I can't bare the story because the game keeps reminding me that I'm being hand-holded. So any wonder I had is quickly lost.
And that is my reasons. It's rather big reasons. But it's hard to play a game when you cannot care about the characters or story. That is the reason I have a falling out with the series. And so then with each entry becoming more over bearing with it's quite visible hand guiding me, I loose interest in the game. Which sucks because gen8 probably had a ok story. And I've played through it. And the worst part. It's one of the most forgettable pokemon games I've played. I can remember important characters, but that's it. And that one event with cosmog. And the ather foundation head. I don't remember the trials. There wasn't anything that stood out. Which sucks. Because gen7 at least had quite a few memorable moments. Which kind of proves the hand holding killed my experience for the most part.
