Nintendo Switch version 6.0 firmware goes live on September 18th

246x0w.jpg

If you've been waiting for that mystery firmware 6.0 update, sure to bring stability to Nintendo Switch systems worldwide, then fear not. Nintendo has confirmed that it'll be pushing out the update on September 18th in North America, and early on the 19th if you're in Europe. This update is to prepare for the launch of the Nintendo Switch Online service, and will come with the caveat that once you update, you'll never be able to unlink your Nintendo account from your Switch user profile. After the update is released, the eShop will also be down for maintenance for around 3 hours. This will be further touched upon in tomorrow's Nintendo Direct.

After installing the system update planned for September 18th, 2018 (Tuesday) at 5pm Pacific Time, it will no longer be possible to unlink your Nintendo Account from your Nintendo Switch user.

Prior to this change, it is important to confirm that your Nintendo Account or your child’s Nintendo Account is linked to the correct user.
  • To learn more about Nintendo Account for your child, please click here.
By ensuring that your Nintendo Account is linked to the correct user, you will be able to appropriately manage your save data, Nintendo Switch Online membership, and Nintendo eShop content.

How to Check
  1. You can review under each user’s My Page > User Settings > Link Nintendo Account. Part of the Nintendo Account holder’s email and nickname will display.
  2. If you are not sure if the user is linked to the correct Nintendo Account, check the following:
    • On the Nintendo Account website, sign in and select the Shop menu option on the left. Compare your current balance and total My Nintendo Gold Points with those on the Nintendo eShop on your Nintendo Switch system
    • If you are still not sure, compare the digital software on your Nintendo Switch with your Purchase History on the Shop menu or check to see if you have received purchase confirmation emails.

Any point having a Nintendo account linked to a hacked Switch?

I created one to get game updates before the days of NSPs. Wondering if I should unlink it before the deadline. Probably get my very banned in the process though. I've no intention of going online again at this stage

They want you to buy the games all over again if you break your switch lmao.
I'm guessing if you buy a new switch you can link that one to the old account.

So what happens to us who have never kinked a Nintendo account? Nothing?

Guys, think for one fraction of a second.
What good would the cloud saving be if I was never able to actually restore said saves because my account is forever doomed to one user of one specific switch? I mean that would even mean not being able to restore them on your own switch after a system format and creating a new user.

It's only a deadline if you update your console based on their timetable. I, for one, won't be doing that.

After reading 4 pages. I saw only 2, maybe 3, people really read the informations and understand what perm linking in this case means. Nice! I'm scared that a few of the other are working in a field, were reading is important.. fml

Hello, has it been specified if when we stay on a lower firmware we can keep the ability to unlink our Nintendo account from our Switch? Or does Nintendo update that service on their side and makes it impossible for anyone to unlink their account? They mentioned "after installing the system update", but we can never be too careful with Nintendo.

The unlinking is just so that you can't take profile A with nnid B, download cloud saves, unlink, link to NNID C and upload cloud saves probably. It'll still let you access the profile on a different switch, you just have to look at it like profile = nnid. I think this is how it works on the ps4 too.

Hmmm, if only there was a way to install leaked updates earlier than their official release dates.... Oh wait...... There is.

How do you think SXOS, ReiNX & Atmosphere already have tentative 6.0.0 support?

I'm assuming Nintendo will update the eShop so anyone not on 6.0.0 won't have access to it anymore as well.

only if you want to be banned :creep:

What I meant is, is there any downside to removing the nintendo account from the Switch? I don't intend to go online, installed way to many NSPs, etc for that, but wondering if there's any offline things that won't work without a linked ID.

Like some games on 3DS needed a Mii and wouldn't let you play or use certain features without one, wondering if not having Nintendo ID linked to the profile could have similar issues.

On the 18th it launches officially but it's already on their server since last week or so and via homebrew you can already downlaod it.

If you aren't banned yet I wouldn't risk it. This will flag you for sure.
