Steam adds new store options to allow users to hide controversial games

IMG_1066.JPG

Steam has been changing, lately. Especially since its controversial brush with adult games that lead to the company having a more "open" mindset and allowing all games, regardless, instead of individually curating each entry on the Steam Store. This has caused some backlash amongst users who wish to not see certain types of genre of game on the store. And as of now, Steam has addressed those concerns by adding in a new filtering system. Users can block up to 10 genre tags in order to prevent certain types of games appearing on the storefront. "Adult" and "mature" game filter options were also implemented, the first of which prevents games with sexual content from appearing in your recommendation list, and the latter, which is a filter for overly violent games. Alternatively, you can block an entire publisher or developer from showing up on your customized store browsing. This is yet another step in the direction of Valve opting to have its users curate the Steam Store, rather than Valve needing to individually address titles and remove certain types of games.

About time I can ban MOBA, Visual Novel, 4X, RPGMaker, Tower Defense, Crafting, Multiplayer, Stealth, Survival, Strategy.
4X can actually be fun. Have a look at Stellaris.
With the wording of the title, I thought that Steam was going to allow you to hide games that were below "good" rating.
That would be nice, but some games with mixed ratings are actually good.
is there a filter to hide everything but waifu games?

Are h-games still gonna be censored?
Seems like devs/publishers are free to remove the censors since Valve changed their policy to allow everything. But I'm sure there's a limit to what they will allow, so if you're into some really kinky stuff it might not be allowed.

Boy... If it is allowed... Steam will become a hotspot for all kinds of NSFW gaming so fast. But eh, easy access I guess for those who like to party.

It's not that any of the things that I list can't be fun. It's that for many I have at least one of them and that's enough. Others, like Visual Novels, are just overdone in the quantity made--the same with crafting, survival, hidden object, RPGMaker, and Tower Defense. Specifically for some, like 4X and Strategy, is simply that I'm not really willing to spend the time to learn them.

In any case, the real point of my comment was to joke that when the point seemed to be to hide "controversial games", I'd really just use it to hide the clones or just genres I don't particularly care for. Nudity? Sexual content? That offends me less. :)

PS - I'm not actually going to use the filter thing to ban stuff. Not only do people tag stuff incorrectly all the time, either by under tagging or over tagging, I'd really prefer just using the more normal include/exclude filtering. Generally better filtering tools would be preferred to some store-wide per-use banning system.

PSS - And I'd also like to throw in that from what I've seen 90% (it might be lower/higher, but I base it on the games I've played with that tag) of games tagged "nudity" don't even have nudity. Maybe some of them have out-of-steam patches that the developer offers, but it makes no sense it's not just a toggle in the menu if desired. Also, I wonder if their own rule that they'll only ban troll games will actually be follow, as tags should be enough to ban/filter out what people don't want to see when it comes to various kinks.

ah at least my waifu games are not getting removed good job steam

Too bad the ones always whining and crying about certain games (left wing nutjobs mostly) are offended by them merely existing in the first place, an this will do nothing to stop the triggering. if anything they'll make sure not use the tools at their disposal to not see them, because then how could they complain how "toxic" gaming is?

now people can block and never see okay games because of whatever relationship they may have with other games.
