Not too long ago I followed a tutorial on randomizing Pokemon Ultra Sun by using pk3DS and Luma's ability to patch romfs, and I tried doing it again today with Pokemon X. However, they are different and X requires .cro files in the romfs, and they don't seem to be working (Although since Luma patches the RO module they should). From the bit of research I have done, to modify starters I need to have the modified DLLField.cro and Dllpoke3select.cro. No matter which of those two I put in(or both), the game will crash sometime between booting and choosing the starter Pokemon, and I do not know why. I have tried re-extracting the romfs and redoing it from scratch a few times, and nothing seems to work. Any help would be much appreciated, and I can provide links to both the crash report from Luma or the romfs folder itself if needed. Thanks!

Did you use the .cro files from the game's romfs only? Because if you updated your game you will also want to dump those and replace the existing ones. It's worth a try.

The .cro files were from the extracted romfs(.cia dumped from my 3ds) after I modified it with pk3DS. Would using a .cia with an updated version of the game mess with the files? My pokemon x rom was on the newest version.

I meant rather dumping the updates files directly with GodMode9, open it and go to -> SYSNAND SD -> title -> 0004000e -> then the titleID of the game, which would be 00055D00 -> content -> and then mount the bigger .app file

well you should see exefs and romfs, copy those two to the (untouched) romfs and exefs dumps of your game, and then reapply the whole patching with pk3ds to those untouched and merged files

The same crashes seem to be happening. What if I tried rebuilding the modified extracted stuff back into a .cia?
