I am fine with that idea but...just don't like that they are charging for firmware installs. I am worried about how that will work out if say my switch dies, not to mention that my wife has a switch and having to pay twice for the software rubs me wrong. Hell the whole reason I am considering all of this in the first place is that I hate that there is no family sharing for the switch.
Family sharing works just fine on the Switch. Whatever Evelyn buys on her Switch using her own profile, her daughter Arwen is able to play on her own profile too. Evely bought the Splatoon 2 DLC, and Arwen also got it. Anyone who plays on the system that the games were bought for are able to play the games.

It's not a CFW install. The CFW is not perm. It needs to be re-ran with the dongle every hard reboot.

Yeah but I am talking about more like what the ps4 has. We have two ps4s and can play the games together even if we bought them only once by making one system the primary for my account, then I log out she logs in, and I log into the other system. It basically give you two uses at the same time with a purchase online.
For the Switch if I buy a game on her system it can only be used on that system without some massive changes. It can only be run by one of us at a time. So we have to figure out who buys what and who gets it on what system and you can't mix and match. She got Zelda and Mario and I got Xenosaga 2 and if she wants to play mario and I want to play zelda we are boned. Stuff like that is silly in the current market (ie what ps4 and xbox offer).

So it really gets me going. Anyhow, not what the thread is about so...maybe not worth going into.

True but I saw something saying you need a license for each switch that you run the CFW on. Not sure how that works but figure on first install it pulls a mac address or something and won't work on a second switch...is that not right?

Same with me. Was super excited when I thought it was a chip that had it's own firmware in it, then I saw this and well....I just can't bring myself to back it. I would buy the part no problem, but I just can't bring myself to pay for the OS.

It's only $40 USD and the OS allows booting of backups, which will eventually come to the free software land, but until it does you have to wait. If the device was like other mods that cost like $80 - $100 I would probably wait (if I owned a Switch) for a price drop or a free solution, but to me $40~ is damn well worth the investment. One of the problems I have with the current setup is it relies on a computer to function. That fucking sucks for a portable gaming device.

It's probably based on the AT90USB128x/64x like the teensy3, in mass production cheap af and easy to program. Dev boards avaliable from a few dollars

I agree on that in general but it would cost me $70 for my two systems when I really feel like it is just being made up. It should just cost $40 for both....BUT and this is a big but I don't really know if that is true. I don't know if I can install the OS on two systems and just use the dongle to hard reboot them when needed. So I am confused on it and it is making me wait. Like I said, happy to pay for hardware, just don't like the software side if it is one system/setup only. Was absolutely going to pull the preorder button until I heard that. It just bugs me (totally just my thing).

Would be nice to know for sure if that is the case on the cfw. Considering they call it a license for the CFW though...I think it is so.

The CFW is probably linked to each Dongle and won't run on other systems and will be heavily encrypted - so much that it would take a lot of time to crack. If you can wait then wait, but if you want a soluble solution that offers what no one else can offer then you will have to pony up the money.

I don't think so considering you can by the OS (ie cfw) by itself if you already have a dongle. ie you buy one dongle then buy another license to run the cfw again. Not sure if they just add the license to the dongle or something but again....that is just crazy to me. Let me buy the dongle and do with it what I want. Having DRM in this makes me cringe. Kind of the whole point of this...right?

Xecuter is a for profit business. If the OS isn't tied down to the Dongle then it will probably require activation and only work on 1 console per license. They are providing in demand services and that won't stop anyone, but the poor for buying them. If you can't afford to buy a $40 dongle then you should not have spent $300 on a Switch to begin with. Otherwise just wait. For now I'm waiting for buy a Switch as there are no games that interest me and by the time there is 1 or 2 games the console will probably cost $100 and be cracked to shit.

That is fine. I just think it sucks and I won't support them for it. I would completely support the idea of making money from hardware that allows you to circumvent DRM on a system. I hate the idea of injecting DRM into software/cfw that is used to circumvent someone else's DRM. I get they are a for profit business. That doesn't mean they need to develop for every system. It also doesn't mean that they can't make a profit without charging for every firmware that gets installed. Just sell the dongle. Give away the cfw.

I by the way will wait if this is the case, but I am doing it because of the way I feel..not the money. The extra I would have to pay is not enough to bug me...nowhere near, but the idea drives me nuts so I just can't support them. I also think if it spreads to the rest of the community things are not going to go well. Anytime you add DRM you cause problems.

I believe they are more worried about the mod shops and others selling their FW. It makes sense that locking the software is the only way.
Personally I think that there asking price is fair and I think more are bothered about what kind of money TX will make vs the point..

Most people hide behind the "open source" and "free software" deal because they are simply cheap pirates. There aren't many people who actually believe in this sort of stuff. I don't care if a program is open source or costs money. If it does something I want and there is no alternative then I guess I would have to buy it. Everyone is saying that the free open source OS will be out soon, but with what? Requiring a physical connection to a computer and most likely not supporting loading backups. I'm sure these things will come so wait and shut the fuck up. Quit littering the site by bitching about a product just because you're cheap and want what it does.

I cant believe people are even complaining over the last $30 there going to spend on their switch. Crazy

Have not been following everything closely. I think I understand you need the dongle and the component to boot a switch into CFW in this case we are talking TX's CFW right? (which is then tethered, because after a power off everything has to be repeated to get back to the CFW), has there been any discussion that there might be the possibility of reflashing the firmware on the switch to some type of CFW so that from power on it will boot right into CFW and not be a tethered solution?

The Dongle doesn't require to be tethered. It has a small USB port on it, but that's probably just used to update the payload. The OS will require you to use the Dongle once to install it after that it will boot without the Dongle.

I'm imagining it'll be within a week that the whole thing gets cracked and you can run the CFW without their hardware and use their hardware for other CFWs.
I disagree..it'll take longer than A week even if more than one person is trying to crack it. Last scene I followed with something like this was the ps3 scene and it took some time to crack the dongle everyone wanted. But in the end. Once this thing becomes redundant and A free CFW comes along that does everything and more. They won't support this any longer once the money stops coming in. This is A quick money grab..Seen it before and i'm sure this isn't the last time it'll happen. In the end the people making the money never have the last laugh or the best CFW or whatever. And something bettter always comes along. Just A matter of time. But yes at some point this will get cracked and this will be A distant memory or something will soon come out just as good. We will one day forget about this product in the long run.

It all depends, the dongle was probably a different exploit or something. All their dongle is doing is sending a payload to the Switch, I'm sure you could just MITM the payload.

Note that the dongle/CFW will suport software upgrade so I assume from PC.
They are basically selling a CFW with DRM...
