Looks cool. I'm always interested in what can be done with a console. It's unfortunate that they don't believe in sharing, but since they showed it was possible (at least by way of this picture), someone will figure it out.

So what's the significance of this? I'm no hacking expert, but I can install Linux on my laptop with relative ease, why would I want it on the Switch?

I understand if it's just a for-fun hacking project, and if that's the case, well, you do you then.

Depends on what side of the fence you're on. If you dislike F0F, then it's just them being shitty and there is no relevance because they won't release any data regarding this. If they DID release it, it could put new exploits out into the market that no one has available to them, or didn't know about.

On the flip side, if you don't care about F0F or simply just like seeing what can be done, then again, no real relevance, it's just cool to see.

The really interesting part, imo, is the modchip thingy being used in the picture, leading me to believe that this is a coldboot Linux launch.
I personally find this part the most interesting.

You think they've figured out how to hijack the booting process from launch? B9s style?

I am pretty sure they have.
I wouldn't be surprised they use the same exploit that is being the supposedly incoming Xecuter hack :P

Please, people, stop hating on them... and please also stop defending them. And while you are at it, stop giving them any attention at all, except when you really just think something along those lines of "Hey, someone did something I couldn't do and I really like that without having any thoughts about how this could improve my life."

Because if you are in any regard thinking about any benefits from this, you might be disappointed for a long time. And maybe, just MAYBE if those guys don't get any attention at all, be it positive or negative, they MIGHT release something just to get people to talk about them again. And if not, that's not the end of the world.

looks like a ftdi serial port with a ldo voltage regulator, probably for sending data or debugging.

I think they're spoofing the JoyCon ping data with a microcontroller rather than just a TTL to USB. JoyCons use SPI to communicate while connected to the console.

The Sad thing about all hacking scenes and why we will never get releases from any of these hackers is the fear of "oh no my precious exploit will be immediately patched and nobody will be able to use it because all consoles will just come with newer firmware and users wont be able to use it on their existing consoles because please dont just update so you cant use it". Thats my opinion on the matter and sadly it will never change because none of the actions of any of these hackers groups have shown me otherwise.

The moral of the story simply put, share your work and if it gets patched so be it. At least you gave others enjoyment with what you started. And who knows it might even be useful in finding newer exploits if we already have a way in. But thats just my useless opinion on the matter and everyone will push it to the side or ignore it. The choice is yours.

I mean I don't mind waiting for the deja vu TrustZone exploit to be patched in 4.1.1/5.0.0/whatever so it can be released but when it's a hacking group that doesn't release anything then I wouldn't even bother waiting for a release in the first place.

I do understand that, but for me I see it as a opportunity for other hackers to try and get working. Whether that happens or not..well, it's hard to say. Even though eventually (probably another year or so) it will happen.
If they at least give a hint on how to achieve it like some other groups where other hackers then study and get the same result...

I don't care a single bit for hackers that hack something then show pics and videos, never release anything or give any hint...

It's pointless since I'm sure someone in the world at day one probably already have backups running and won't ever show to anyone like the Devs of the Nintendo software they surely know how to hack it and probably some hacked theirs and try everything on their console...

Ps: At least if I was on the Dev team of the device I would hack it and never show to anyone :), install Linux, try making some drivers to run some steam Linux games.........
