Still in the proccess of a9lh myself but I know some bits.

My previous set up was just a formated 3DS, i bought one and hacked it.

I need to backup my saves, does the system formatting process in the first link backs up my saves?

Also is it safe for me to update de system? My 3ds keeps asking me to update for a few days now

well by information, i was asking for current firmware, sysnand and emunand. did you have cfw yet?

I can follow instructions pretty well, I just need the direction I should go in to reach my main objective. Any other games don't mean much, as long as I can play Pokemon Sun and Moon; and whatever cartridge games I still have. Plus online. I'm not entirely sure if this is possible, but i'm assuming so. I would appreciate any help, and basically just point me in the right direction so that I can get this show on the road. Thank you for any input that you may have.

2 Original Nintendo 3DS
Blue-Ver. 11.2.0-35U
Purple-Ver.9.4.0-21U

Main Objective: Play Pokemon Sun and Moon, and cartridge games. Online included.

Edit: Okay after checking out the guide, I was instructed to set up my purple 3ds first. In the guide I got to the part with no browser. The only option I can do is the SSBhax because that is the only game I have. Now before I do this, I just want to clarify that this will somehow lead me to being able to play Sun and Moon. Lol.

I have a O3DS that is just lying around and I want to start playing again.
I'm must say I'm kind lost on what I need to do, I've been reading here on the forum, reddit etc but still...

First my goal is to play 3DS games (Fire emblem, SMT, Zelda, among others), offline, with 3D when possible, ability to save. I don't need homebrew, apps, etc...
I understand I have to routes: flashcard or CFW.

Flashcard seems to be quite straightforward. I had one for DS games.
But I would like to try to CFW. I know I have to follow plailect, but what do I have to do after that?
I can't quite understand how do you play the games after CFW.
With CFW it's possible to play DS games?

Any help would be appreciated

1) DS games from cart, yes
2) Main reason most people want CFW is for piracy. What CFW does is allow you to install unofficial programs to 3ds.
With that people, use programs like FBI, to install files that are stored in .cia format. files are installed as if it was an eshop game.

custom files that community makes, such as FBI are ok to share here. but licensed stuff like games, you have to dig a bit more since you can't share that here.

Any suggestion for good SD card cloning software?

My SD card is playing up and I want to copy 1:1 everything from it to a new SD card. Including emunand and everything.

any software suggestion?

Use this to extract your emuNAND. Everything else literally can just be transferred over by dragging and dropping.

USB Image Tool was good for same size sd card, and the other tool if you have different size sd card.

Oh, system software is 11.0.0-33, that after the cfw install was on USA region and got changed to EU region (need to fix that too), didnt have a CFW before hand. Dont know how to see sysnand or emunand versions, i'm New at this.

So about updating system software is it safe to do so?

And how do i backup my save files before formatting?

I'm confused, how did you install cfw on 11.0?
that should only be possible if you have one of your firmware 9.2 or below (and below 11.0 downgrades to 9.2)
1) If you want to back up your save files, look up jksv. Those will export your save files, of which you can transfer to your computer, import latter if need.
Btw, jksv is both homebrew and cia version.

Hello everyone

I have a question about updating games installed in emuNAND. I'm using MenuHax to load Luma (Firmware 9.2, emuNAND 10.7.0-32E)

When I start some games, I get a message "There is a software update available Y = Update. A = Launch."

Is it safe to press Y and update the game without risking updating my sysNAND in the process? Should I update the games some other way?

They have all been installed with Freeshop.

As long as you are EmuNAND, you are safe in that you won't affect sysNAND.

It mostly tricky when you go go system setting to update as that can go to sysnand by accident

IDK if you can update anyways (i get the games cia files rather then freeshop)

I WAS on 9.2 at the moment of updating but i'm currently ok 11.0

Nobody knows about the New system update? Is it safe to update or not?

Hey guys, is there a new system update out? I'm still running reiNand on a US 10.x N3DS with a9LH. Could someone direct me to how I can update to whatever the latest safe firmware as well as updating from reiNand to Luma? Thank you!

1) It is safe to update and nothing should be broken besides Homebrew (you'd need to update it, depending on whatever you're using as your primary exploit)
2) Hold "Select" while you boot your 3DS up. If a configuration screen pops up and says "Luma3DS vX.X configuration" than you have Luma3DS.
If that dosen't show up, you probably have Cakes then.

I've been have a problem to install cia's. Every archive i try to install, at the end, show this message:

Failed to install cia file
result code: 0xD8E0806A
desc:. Cert signature or hash check failed (106)

Anybody could help?

I noticed the freeshop has dlc I'd like to know if it will work with my cart based games or do I need cia for of my games to use the dlc from freshop?

Dont take my Word but i think the file is invalid, check if tis downloaded correctly
