Looks like the instructions were not clear

It should say;
Copy hs.app from the root of your sd card and paste inside input folder.
from FBI.ZIP copy the FBI.CIA and paste in the input folder.

Is a9lh (and thus otp dump) essential to using freeshop and other homebrew apps, or it's just better than not having it? I misread github 9.2.0 update table and didn't dump otp before updating from 2.1.0-4E to 6.2.0 with cartridge.

you can use freeshop and cfw without a9lh but a9lh is brick proof %100 boot rate and always updating if you just

After following

15. Press B on Decrypt9, then go to "SysNAND Options", then "Miscellaneous...", and select the "Health & Safety Inject" option
16. Press down once to select FBI_inject_with_banner.app, then press A to inject

I'm displayed this message. I did press the left up right up a then got a error.

20. Backup SysNAND to sysNAND.bin

I didn't see see sysNAND.bin. However, I was in the SysNAND and Backup SysNAND and chose nand.bin instead of sysNAND.bin. The NAND.bin is 954.megs.

Does NAND.bin sound like the right sysNAND.bin?

That should be correct, but if you don't trust it, just redump and compare checksums and such.
edit: that picture says that you chose nand.bin as the name, not sysnand.bin

Not essential, just recommended.

After trying another nand back up the program said something was wrong with my sd card. I then put the dump back on the card and did a validation and it showed a success.

32. Navigate to sysUpdater.cia and press A to install

I don't see a sysupdater.cia in FBI. There is a update in the main menu. Is update the same as sysupdater.cia?

I did try the update in FBI and it said no updates available.

33. Press the home button to go to the home menu, then open the sysUpdater application and press the A button to install

I pressed home after the update and I didn't see a sysupdater application... I think I did something wrong

I guess I have a soft brick...
I loaded a 3ds game to see if the console works. The game loaded fine, but I have a new problem now.
Health and safety is not showing up in the menu nor is the FBI app. What is displayed is a triangle with a ! When I click on the ! I'm presented with a message "An error has occurred. please save your data in any software currently in use, then restart the system.

I restarted the console and tried loading http://www.reboot.ms/3ds/load.html?rxTools.dat in the 3ds browser.

This means you are not in CFW. And if you want to see sysupdater.cia in FBI you have to actually put it on your SD card.

ha ha oops. I was looking around on the internet and found that there's nothing wrong with my 3ds. What I have to do is load the http://www.reboot.ms/3ds/load.html?rxTools.dat everytime I restart my 3ds. Tomorrow I'll work on it again.

I'm getting a New 3DS soon, the fire emblem version, which comes with 10.3. Do I need a game to downgrade it or am I good without one?

You are fine without one. Follow parts 1 & 2 of the Plailect guide to downgrade.

That's the root of my sd card. I double checked my files and everything is right. I don't understand why sysupdater didn't show up.

I figured sd was for graphics or something similar

I'm installing the upgrade now, a whole lot of cia are installing.Thanks for your help.

I think the guide is missing an update for 1.x->2.x FBI. The SD contents used to be displayed on the touch screen.

Oh sweet it worked. I'm on 9.2.0-20U. The home screen no longer looks like a ds screen.

Homebrew looks fun to install; open the browser settings as fast as possible, (it also may be called Clear All Save Data) as fast as possible.
