Try using an older version of Luma, like 5.2.
It worked, thanks man.

DOn't know if I should be asking since is not the purpose of the topic, but when trying to make a dump of emunand (step 11 of the part 4 in the Plailects guide) I get a error saying "sd not formatted to emunand". What should I do?
EDIT: I was using a older version of decrypt9, that was the problem. A newer version worked fine.

I have a similar problem in Plailect's guide. I' stuck on Section II, step 6 where right I completed installation of a9lh, it tells me to boot into Luma3ds while holding select. I do so but it seems no matter which combinations of buttons I hold have an effect. I am sure all my buttons are correctly since I was recently using them for the previous steps. However, instead of starting up to a black screen, the system boots up into Uncart, the game cart unloader program. I' not sure why this happens. Help is appreciated.

Sounds like you have uncart's 'arm9loaderhax.bin' in the root of your SD card. Because when you extract from the zip it's called 'arm9loaderhax.bin' and can cause confusion. You need to rename that to x_uncart.bin or y_uncart.bin (I forget which button it is) and place it in the luma/payloads/ folder. And make sure you have the 'arm9loaderhax.bin' from the Luma3DS 7.zip file in the root of your SD card.

Edit: Wow, thanks for replying. This fixed my problem and my 3ds now boots correctly into luma. Once again, thanks!

I'm having the same issue, i've used both luma 5.5 and 5.2 version... to no avail. So this is really a Luma 3DS issue then?

Did you trie it more than one time?
Do you have and OLD or NEW 3DS?
Did you have a Gateway card and played til now with the NAND made by Gateway?
Did you do Part 1 and Part 2 from Plailect's guide?
Sorry some questions to make the solution finding faster :)
Please let us know.

BTW i changed my second poste because i made a mistake! Did you read that again?
Hi, I am having the same problem.
I used Gateway on my new3ds to format emunand and it also works for CakesFW.
I am now trying to boot my emunand with Luma3DS, after initial configuration, I just got black screen.
Thanks in advance!

Okay a first typ would be to DL another (older) version of Luma3ds frome here: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases
IMHO i would use the 5.2 version (this was the first Luma release).
DL that and copy the named files in Plailects guide to the root of your SD card (overwrite the existing one!)
Put the SD card back and boot your 3DS.
Get into the menuhax and start Luma........?!?!?
(Let us know what happened) ;)

P.S. sometimes it needs 3 or 4 tries before it boots correctly!
Why does he needs to get that older version?

The guide claims to get the latest (user in the hence of moving to A9LH).

If you get into a problem you can try another version (earlyer or later) to find the solution faster.

Thanks to suggestions here I was able to use Luma 5.2 to launch into RedNAND. What can I do later to put Luma back into version 5.5 (latest version) ? Is there an actual need to update the Luma version? I'd assume so for safety reasons

I've done 4 3DS with the Plailect guide and never had this issue with RedNAND before, so I'm just sort of confused at the moment

You can try to use Luma Updater or StarUpdater I guess.

I followed Plailect Guide from beginning to end, and unfortunately in Part 3, at the time of starting the Luma3DS, the screen went black.

Following the tips in this post, I tested all the latest versions of Luma3DS, and the only one that worked was 5.2

Does anyone know the real reason of this problem? Please, if anyone can report to AuroraWright or Plailect. I do not know how I can do this.

I'm having a similar issue. I have followed the guide and managed to get into the RedNAND the first time, but now that I updated it, I get a black screen.
O3DS running v9.0.0-20U using menuhax and all the updated files told in the guide
Going to try and restore RedNAND by cloning my SysNAND over to it since SysNAND is still working fine

EDIT: So the clone got RedNAND booting again. Went to the System Settings Emu 9.0.0-20U; all good. System Update > An Error Has Occurred. System reboots. Replaced with Luma Version 5.2 as recommended in one of the comments. It managed to boot up again, but still refuses to update. "An error has occurred. Unable to update. The system will now be restarted."

EDIT2: I'm an idiot, because I have been blocking Updates from Nintendo because I have a WiiU I don't want updated, it wouldn't update my 3DS. Ignore my dumbness
Hey dude, I'm having this same issue now. Can you explain what exactly was causing the issue for you? I went into my wifi settings and made sure DNS was set to automatic. Still get black screen when I update rednand.

Hey I'm now having the same problem as Vorde. Followed the guide, rednand was set up fine, when I updated it the "update" took just a few seconds, then when loading rednand it says "setting up the home screen" then i get black screen. I did have a gateway card, and was using the gateway emunand as u asked. However before I started the guide I used diskpart to completely clean the sd card. Will this have any impact?
