Probably a dumb question, but can i use this sysupdater (https://gbatemp.net/threads/simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/page-95#post-5923820) to follow this tutorial and upgrade a 3ds to 9.2?
Devmode isn't working in 2.5.2 with 8.1.0-19U. I first tried 3.0 but the install fbi injector didn't work.
I've managed to upgrade from 4.1 to 9.2 - excellent stuff, thanks!

This does appear to be the case, but now trying to use the MSET exploit just throws me out the 3DS main menu. Any ideas?

This 6.2 3DS won't load rxTools no matter what.
The only thing it can boot is the gateway launcher, but that's only if I open several tabs and get really lucky.
Clearing browser data does not help.
Tried rxTools 3.0, 2.6 and 2.5.2.

If you have a ds flashcart, use the rxinstaller from the latest nightly to install the mset rop.
If you updated your console with a retail cartdridge and not online or with sysupdater, rxtools versions above 2.6 won't boot from the browser.
And no, you don't need CN.
Get the 9.X mset cia from the full pack then install it on your sysnand with sysupdater, fbi, bbm or devmenu.
I didn't, so I ended up downgrading to 4.5 using gateway's launcher using the 'go' exploit since that's the only thing that worked.
After that I could boot rxTools and launch sysupdater.
If someone is reading this and is on 6.2, either use a ds flashcart or downgrade. It'll save you from a massive headache as sliderhax is incompatible on that version!
The more I read about cfw and upgrading my firmware to 9.2 the less I understand, the more new terms and abbreviations come up and the more sentences of "... bricked my console" I read, the less I'm willing to just go with a year old guide to achieve goals today like going from my 6.2 O3DS (EUR, vanilla, upgraded from carts) to 9.2 and then adding a 10.5 EmuNAND.
This is basically what I want to get done, but I don't want to download the wrong files, so this guide tells me to get the latest version of sysupdater, but do I really want the latest version?

Bonus question: what's my exit strategy for game saves? I heard CIA games save in a different way than .3DS games, apparently only former I can play without a Gateway card, right?
Can I move CIA gamesaves from one hacked 3DS to another?
2nd bonus: how does updating the EmuNAND in future version work? Replace a bunch of files and once cold boot is set up once I'll always have it?

I m trying to follow this guide but i m having issues trying to install FBI to install sysupdater and i m running o3ds 4.4.0-10E if some1 could walk me though or upload the files i need that be great
Modified firmware is firmware which claims to be 9.2 but isn't exactly 9.2 because it has some different versions of certain files. That is because people wanted 9.2 with older versions of such things as the DS card blacklist. I would go with an unmodified one.
sysupdater can be more or less safe depending on at least three things:
-- whether it verifies the files before installing them
-- whether it deletes all the old files first or whether it deletes or installs them one at a time (obviously you want it to do one at a time so if something goes wrong you don't have no files and end up with a brick)
-- what order it does the files in (I'm not sure which is the best).
In order for you to get to 9.2, you basically have to hack your machine and install CFW first anyway. So going to 9.2 doesn't gain you anything except you have more methods of running the CFW, such as menuhax. Both 9.2 and 6.2 are fully hackable, but on your 6.2, you'll have to get the CFW by using the profile exploit, which requires a DS flash cart. The people who really need to get 9.2 are the people whose firmware is above 9.2, where there's no full hack but there is a hack that lets you downgrade.
.cia can be installed in custom firmware. Only Gateway uses .3ds. You can move the save files using a program called savedatafiler, you can't just directly copy them.
To update the EmuNAND, go into EmuNAND, enter system settings, and update without leaving system settings. Don't update in other ways. You may sometimes need a new version of CFW to go with the new EmuNAND, in which case install that first; installing it is just a matter of copying files.

ok I manage to to get things sorted and updated my o3ds from 4.4.0-10E to 9.2.0-20E once it finished updating it rebooted automatically and booted into system nad of 9.2.0-20E normally. The health and saftey app was restored to stock app but FBI and System updater were still there so i did the following
1. deleted the two blank app in settings
2. ran format of the system memory and formated the SD Card on my pc and then insert SD card to create a new 3ds folder
and its all cleaned out and success updated thanks for this guide but i will say this guide could have been done in greater detail i spend the day gettings this to worked even tho sysupdater worked first shot it could have went smoother

I ended up going to a modified 9.2E, because I like having the options modified provides and I wanted to coldboot, so I need menuhax.
It runs great now, but boy that was one hell of a process I had to patchwork together myself with a bunch of tutorials and partially conflicting information, but the result is all that matters.
Oh and I believe I read it somewhere, but I want to make sure I got it right:
I know I should steer clear from going to Data Management in the Settings app in SysNAND, however, is this still true with UNLINKED NANDs?

One last question:
I know most of the homebrew only runs from within HBL and can't be installed like say an eShop game, which I think is a bummer, because I'd like all things in one place, regardless on to my question:
say I have a homebrew game and I want to backup its savegame, how do I do that either for a possible CIA homebrew (savedatafiler or is the save unencrypted in this case?) or for an HBL-only title respectively?

Ok I think I know the answer to this.....I am on a 4.5 o3DS XL..........been using GW since launch on this unit. I want to update my Sysnand to 9.2 and use menuhax and the GW .3dsx.
Soooo my question is, being on 4.x since the start, If I update my sysnand to 9.2 will I have save game problems with all games that use the newer save keys? Is this only cart1 saves or does it include all saves like .cia installed games and eshop? I know there is no tool to resign saves but could I backup my saves using saveFiler and then restore them after the update?

When I try to access devmode/pasta mode from rxtools it crashes (black screen when launching from browser or just freeze if I'm using DS profile exploit). What could be the reason? I have tried RxTools 2.5.2 and RxTools 3.0. I have O3DS with 5.1 sysnand and 10.x emunand.
No matter how hard I try, I can't inject FBI into the health and safety app. I get a SecureInfo_A Failed! SecureInfo_B Failed! error, so I decided to give up.
I did manage to inject Bigbluemenu into health and safety and also installed Devmenu with it.

Installing homebrew CIA / Pirate CIA will leave a fake ticket on ticket.db and UNABLE TO BE REMOVED.
Since I'm considering Nintendo will ban fake ticket installed consoles if they want to (currently Nintendo haven't banned anything about this), Sysupdater CIA upgrading 4.X-8.X to 9.2 is considered not so safe because Sysupdater CIA's fake ticket will eternally stay at your SysNAND's ticket.db.
A good method to avoid leaving fake ticket on SysNAND, is injecting Sysupdater to H&S App.
