I'm a bit salty, Was planning to switch my N3DS from rxTools to ReiNAND, then update to 10.5
As Usual, Plan to back up everything, NAND first, then every file in SD card. NAND back up appeared to be successful. However, when Copy and pasting my SD card, i get a bunch of errors and this happened...

Ah Irony, backup to prevent this, and this happens itself.
Luckily, I didn't play that much since my last back up, and I did some individual game saves in the between.

Now my Question: I have the feeling I should Format my SD card since it already messed up. Considering it should still have the EmuNAND partition, I'm format it correctly, or if I shouldn't format it at all.

Mostly not sure about the Allocation unit size.

You.... could have had both ReiNand and RxTools on the same SD card...

Well since you messed it up I'd use emunand tool to back up your Emunand partition and back up your Emunand folder and HOPE it works, just in case. Then I'd format and start again.

Ya I know. Main point was to set up ReiNand since RxTools can't go past 9.5.

EmuNand folder doesn't even exist.... That Nintendo 3ds appeared there when I put the SD card back into 3ds. Meh, I hope my old EmuNAND folder back works decent enough.
IDK how i screwed up. Was just copy and pasting...

My main question was how exactly to format though...
Advise with the pictures I put? A bit confused since it has the emunand part.

Yeah I get that part about switching CFWs, but not the part about backing everything up. You could dual boot into it no problem, it's just Rxtools no longer becomes functional.

Well if you don't have the Emunand folder, then you're most likely losing all the saves you got.

So, try to use the Emunand tool on the SD card to try and salvage what you have left, then if that doesn't work (you get an error for some odd reason) then it's all over, as you (might) lose your NNID too.

I think that was just downright bad luck on the copying and pasting part.

Hi, noob here.. I've read some threads that 10.5 can be downgraded. Will this work without hardware mod? Any links for this?

regarding the format, should i press ok in the picture i put of the format setting (2nd picture).
And is Emunand affected if I format the SD card? It in a it own partition so a bit confuse there.

A quirk of mine, always back everything up in SD card when i take SD card out in case something like this happen.
Luckly, I tend to cheat, thus use SVDT often, so i have back up of the games on my computer.

ya, extreme ironic bad luck on copy and paste. The countermeasure has caused the problem it is a countermeasure itself for.

Well, I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't be affected, but I'd still back up Emunand via Emunand tool first. So no, leave it, back it up, then format it.

Thanks for your help so far. A bit on edge since extreme random bad luck.
I backed up emunand before copying and pasting and having the disaster, so i'm a bit worried that emunand works. I guess i'll see.

If you have an Emunand.bin before this catastrophe, then you've already gotten rid of the worse case scenario of losing your NNID (until you call Ninty to unlink it for you of course).

Right now the worse case scenario looks to be just reinstalling everything for Emunand if it does get formatted, as you have saves for your games already.

So I just ordered one of the Pokemon 20th anniversary Green gbc VC codes from japan. The one that comes with a physical box and stuff, I get that the eshops are region locked, is there any exploit to get the japanese game on my 3ds?

Region change your 3ds to Japanese version so that you could access the japanese eshop.

Is that process reversable/temporary? I don't want to buy any extra crap or mess with the 3ds software to much, I kind of stepped away from flashcarts and such when the 3ds came out. I was way more proficient when it was just the DS.

It is reversible, but it's a lot of work. You'd need to have CFW to be kinda safe. If you don't want to mess around, then there's no way for you to redeem that code.

So assuming I used this method, Downloaded the game, and switched back to USA eshop, would I still be able to run the japanese game? If this is the case, I'll probably look into it. Thank you for your time!

Only if you have CFW on your 3DS in the first place.

So uninstalling this CFW would also prevent me from running the game? That might be a no-go if this is the case unfortunately.

*Edit: I have no problem installing mods on the 3ds, but I just don't like how nintendo is always playing cat and mouse and trying to curb these exploits in the name of anti-piracy. I would like to be able to play the game without having to deal with any potential nintendo action that would hinder my 3ds functionality or force me to reinstall more cfw mods and exploits to maintain this tiny detail.
