After one fuckillion tries, im yet to install a single legit cia.
I guess you are right (again), downgrade seems to be a lot less work than the f bi
Silly question time.

How is the downgrade process a lot less work though? Isn't it using the same memchunk2 code to enable kernel access = as stable of a boot as FBI currently ?

Just wanted to report success! 10.3, ironhax, N3DSXL - installed mk7, pkmn AS, 3d land, nsmb2, and animal crossing. Pokemon Y failed, so I may try that later. Pokemon romhacks did not work.

I dont know. I still havent tried to downgrade and only gave the tutorials a quick look.

Yet nothing can be worst than trying to install these legit cias with this app.

Ive tried several times. Each time with a different "style". Cartrige in, cartrige out, press A, press L, open brony, open 3dscraft, you have to read the DONE, the DONE does nothing, etc etc"

And every reboot sucks...

Really, im tired

EDIT: i guess you are asking from a technical standpoint.... sorry i didnt get this earlier. But i really dont understand the technical side of it. Im just judging the amount of work based on the steps you have to take to make it work

Does anyone else have FBI freezing on Done? It worked before and I managed to install mk7 & Dream Team but now it wont work:/

I have the same issue. I install NSMB Gold fine yesterday. Loaded up my SD card with the other CIA's this morning and can't seem to get into FBI anymore. I've tried ironhax, browserhax, and menuhax. All with FTBrony and CHMM2. It always either gets to cleaning up or freezes on done and I have to hard reboot.

Read this and you will understand, that only completely unaltered cias work.

You should read the above link too. ;)

Had already read that among all of the other hundreds of pages. That's why I stated "legit" CIA's. :P

Read the OP. The whole process is really hit and miss but there's been plenty of people that have gotten it to work.

Basically you get homebrew all set up. Then after homebrew is working you will run the modified FBI. This is where it will get frustrating, especially since you will be using a N3DS, because you will have to keep launching the FBI until it gets the special privileges It requires to install the CIA files. But only LEGIT games can be installed.

But how does a person on a N3DS install homebrew on 10.3? I asked "How do people install legit CIA's on a non downgraded N3DS?" Don't you have to downgrade to install homebrew? That's where my confusion lies.

There is this thing called Memchunk2, it somehow gains "admin" privileges.

Someone has taken an incomplete version of it that is used to downgrade and instead pointed it to an app called FBI.

This FBI allows you to install CIAs. And if the MemChunk2 worked correctly you can now install CIAs, but only Legit CIA.

Seriously, read the OP (Original Post). It explains it there.

You can install homebrew on n3ds by using Browserhax and then installing another hax called menuhax. These 'hax' will let you load homebrew launcher in which it is somewhat similar to a sony psp main menu. From there you can choose which homebrew apps to load, given that you have one installed on the sd card. One of these homebrew apps is thr FBI app, which lets you install CIA.

Though a certain FBI app has been tinkered with to allow legit CIA installation on 9.3 and above.

Hope this answers your question :D

I think that helps a lot. So the only reason people downgrade is so they can install NON-legit CIA's? I thought you had to downgrade to even install/use Browserhax, Menuhax, HBL, etc. I guess that is not the case?

Nope. But I just like the fact that Retroarch Emulators work better after downgrading.

Ugh, never mind -.- It is failing on 99%, description <unknown> etc. What should I do? Keep trying?
yup just gotta keep trying the eject trick or you could try turning wifi off, launch HBL through menuhax or ironhax, open blargSnes, exit blargSnes by touching the red X on the touch screen, then boot FBI, should launch by the 2nd or third try.

How does one turn the wifi off on N3DS? I'm used to a switch on the side.

I guess I should have said the reason "a lot of people" downgrade is to install non-legit CIA's? So just to make 100% sure - entry points, homebrew, and legit CIA's can be installed/used on a non-downgraded N3DS, but you can only install non-legit CIA's if you downgrade. Oh, and Retroarch Emus work better after downgrading. :P Is that correct? If so, my confusioon is gone. Or at least that part of it. If not I guess I'm screwed. Haha.

I'm not a noob here or to hacking consoles, just entirely new to the (N)3DS. I started when it was first discovered the Dreamcast would play burned discs & have since done PS1, PS2, PS3, Wii, Wii U (vWii), DSi, and 360 all with ease. This should really not be so difficult for me to grasp. I think I'm just getting old, lmao.

Edit: Actually, I started by cutting notches in the sides of floppy discs for the Apple II series, to make them double sided. :)
