i asked the same question as well and got several,varied answers. update your computer.do it at night and turn off the monitor(should be done in morning). or go to www.gbatmw.com and go to the media section. you had to make 5 posts about two weeks ago to get into the media section but there trialing no post for a couple of weeks
I have a dual core pc and I notice that when using batchDPG it only uses one core. If the developer ever decides to support full use of dual core cpus then converting time could be much faster, but it's probably not likely in the near future, so the best way is to wait or download pre-converted videos.
There are a few tricks that speeds the conversion up.
For starters, i've noticed that it goes way faster if you just leave the comp when doing it. Compared to when you are for example, browsing, downloading etc.
Also, with the latest BatchDPG ppl seem to prefer to use the profile High/Ultra setting. Which takes a longer time to convert but makes the size smaller something. But I prefer using the profile Med which I actually notice very little difference in quality and size. But most importantly, with the Med profile, the conversion goes about 50-75% faster than using the High/Ultra Profile.

Killermech is on the mark: high settings (which seem to be enabled as standard) cause a slow encode (but a higher quality result).
If you need an all in one app for DPG conversion (of which I know of three) then to my knowledge none will support multiple processors/cores as this point in life.
However if you encode by hand you can speed things up (although depending on your familiarity with video it may get far more complex.
There are various multicore apps filtering into the video world although they tend to deal with high demand standards like H264 rather than mpeg1 (what DPG uses). While apps are nice you can simply split the video and encode on two seperate cores (i.e. run two encodes simultaneously).
I have not tried this with DPG yet but you could try http://mpgtx.sourceforge.net/ to join streams.
Regarding the actual encoding of MV1 streams there are several apps but mplayer/mencoder work well:
