Got my Sky for under 70$ USD shipped, used a 16GB I got for five bucks, never looked back. Only problems I ever had were with games needing higher than 9.2 and me not wanting to upgrade.

Haven't touched mine in weeks because I want to make .cia files work with my CN exploits, but I would recommend one in a heartbeat to anyone on 9.3 or higher.

Carnt you run 9.2+ games through region four via cubic ninja? Sure that gets round the need to update :)

OP is a noob. ROM downloader? Hahahaha. What are you smoking, dude? Stay the fuck away from .exe files.

Sky3DS works just fine if you're on anything higher than 9.2 and don't want to go through the hassle of selling your 3DS and then hunting down one that's on a lower firmware.

Personally I only use it for Cubic Ninja because since this game was printed in a limited quantity, it's difficult to find, and almost as expensive as a Sky3DS. So I just went ahead and got a Sky3DS.

You have been rather hostile from the beginning, and that's the biggest thing people are reacting to. Even by your own admission, you aren't interested in solving a problem, so why should anyone want to help you? Also, you had said previously that you contacted the Sky3DS team, not your retailer, about a refund. (If you corrected that, I must've missed it in the flood of posts, and I apologize.)

Also, I posted on Page 2 earlier today, with mostly the same thing, but that seems to have been lost in the flood. The biggest thing is to focus on the problem at hand, and solutions to that problem. Anger and hostility (from either direction) won't make your Sky3DS suddenly start working, unfortunately. Just like I've got two broken fan blades on a case fan that can attest that smacking your computer to make the fans stop rattling isn't the correct course of action, either...

You've said you've performed the initialization of the Sky3DS that was mentioned earlier. Have you run h2testw on your SD cards to verify them? Is there another card reader you can use, in case your current reader is causing problems in writing the games to the cards? Are there any other troubleshooting steps you can take to narrow down the root cause of the card's failure? Whether we get this card working, or verify its failure so you can get it replaced, either way gets you a working Sky3DS and lets you enjoy games, so let's work on that.

I've only been hostile to those that took this as a source of entertainment and an people attempting to belittle me. I know the problem's probably my sky3ds card, which is why the majority of my OP is regarding the customer service and the technological faults of the product, as opposed to being about "finding roms" and "being unable to perform a simple google search" like so many of the posts in this thread have been about. I probably ended up mixing my words, due to the overflow of unhelpful and immature posts. I have emailed the sky3ds team complaining about their product, and have also emailed my retailer regarding the defective card.

I agree. Though my anger and frustration was purely brought on by the unhelpfulness of gbatemp's trolls, as opposed to my sky not working. I've always been open to the help of others, though most of the posts offering me genuine help are buried below all of the immature and useless posts trying to mock/belittle me. I have run a h2testw on the cards and all of them came out legitimate. There isn't, though I am 100% sure it's not the card reader, as I was actually having some problems with my old card reader when trying to do this, and ultimately my new one has solved all of those so I'm confident that it's in tip-top condition!

I appreciate that you're trying to help me. I'm going to try and reformat the sandisk microsdcard a fourth time and then try the "piece of paper inserted w/ the game card" thing. I'll post my results.

OP, just curious, which ROM and in which region were you looking for?

EU games
such as
Harvest moon: A new beginning
Pokemon Omega ruby (this is everywhere, though I have yet to find a working link on several rom sites)
Bravely Default
Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth
Paper Mario: Sticker Star
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies

that being said, there are a few games which I have been successful in finding, though it seems there are specific roms which are very scarce in contributors.

and obviously compatible with sky3ds (retail dumps, not digital)

I know, I said in my OP that the rom downloader that I'm being referred to by my retailer is full of malware, so I'm not touching it.

are u blind

Youre obviously a goddamn retard if you pay for roms or install a third party program. There's a perfectly good site out there with all the roms you need.
Quote me where I said that I pay for these services :)

Sky3DS works fine with other brands and non-brands. You need to properly break your fat32 format by NTFSing then reformatting into fat32 again. Most problems stem from improper formatting. Fin. Punto. The end.

All ROMs are a hassle. The exe file is the easiest method.

I have never had a problem with my Sky3DS. I would apologize to OP but sadly this was not my experience with Sky3DS.

Even with GW my Sky3DS is still the easiest thing I've used since the DSTwo.

The private header issue is a hassle, but even without GW it is do-able. So again, no sympathy there.

I would hand a Sky3DS to a noob/child before I would try to hack their 3DS. Easier to patch the template with PH and let them do latest update than try to explain firmware to them.

The DSTwo has much more homebrew support, but ranks the same as my Sky3DS as far as user-friendliness.

No apologies. Not happening.

Then, finding roms without having to pay extortion to download websites is almost impossible. Most of the sky3ds retailers just link you to the same old website that required you to download essentially a "rom downloader" onto your computer, which even then is surprise surprise full of malware.

this is why i would rather just buy the original 3ds carts instead at least the money is going to the developers instead of just rouge sellers trying to make a quick buck, i also don't see why i should support flashcart drm, the fact that it's so expensive to buy a sky3ds and you have to import it aswell is the reason i haven't been that much interested in getting a flashcart for my 3ds.

the sooner cfw that allows region free gaming, cheats and mods and lets you rip your game carts to a sd card and is available on all firmwares for the 3ds is available the better.

^thats a eshop only release, only way you will be playing taht on sky3ds is if you use the japanese version
If you seriously want "roms" to play you have plenty, plenty of choices, for the beginning, you could use Ninjhax 2.0 to allow you region free in your games, and since you apparently live in England, i suggest you to find an original copy or digital of Cubic Ninja to run that program, you can also load homebrew in there.

The second option is to rewrite the rom and change the region of the game, for example, let's just say that you want a japanese game but is region locked, you could simply change the region with an specific program, i've heard of some programs that can do it, but is not always effective, you can either hit or miss, so, it's like a double edge sword.

Lastly, is to download cias, and then, convert them to .3ds, cias are way, way easier to find than 3ds roms, ironically, but to convert them is another thing, you'll need programming experience, and you must unlock everything that is packed into the .cia, is not easy, but not impossible, there isn't a program to do it automatically, so, you gotta have to do some steps apart to unlock the content and reconvert it to cia.

In my humble opinion, i suggest you the first option, if you can pay to download roms (Which is stupid) you sure can pay for a copy of Cubic Ninja, and remember, if you want to download roms, do it with a good server, like MEGA or DF, don't trust surveys, you're going to be scammed if you put a survey, the people who do it is almost as stupid as the people who believes that a CFW past 3.55 OFW for the PS3 exist, the only thing we have is Pexploit for the moment so, just take my word, find a good and stable place where you can download with all the security, especially a forum dedicated, or a blog, anything that doesn't have a survey or "Premium accounts", that's just stupid, and finally, you don't need to install programs that allow you to download 3ds rom automatically, you just need to look straight, and know what kind of sites are the ones you want, i recommend you the ones that doesn't have too much publicity, they're usually a lie for the consumers.

I don't have a Sky3ds, but this is the help that i can give you, it can be stressing, but instead of throwing money to solve the problems, do it for yourself, experiment, try to prove different ways, make a list about the possibilities of this or that, you just need to do it for yourself, don't depend on others, i don't know the quality of the 3DS, but i'm sure as hell that is not a problem that can't be countered, you jut need to focus what is wrong, and what is right, and work to make it work, period.
most of this doesnt apply for sky3DS users, you cant just modify the roms, you cant use converted roms, sky3DS only functions with stock 1:1 retails rom rips

only thing he can do with sky3DS on 9.3+ (which i assume he is on as he bought sky3DS) is use ninjhax to allow region free rom loading (which is still limited to 1:1 retail rom rips) and homebrew

AFAIK if you modify any aspect in the ROM, including it's region, it will break the ROM signature and sky3ds will be unable to properly load/run the ROM.
OP's best option to play out of region ROMs unfortunately is through RegionFOUR or Ninjhax 2.0 (both requiring a physical copy of Cubic Ninja from the proper region).

You can launch regionfour through cubic ninja on sky3ds

Jarrad, if you don't know how to use download sites it's your fault. Don't pay anything, don't download exes and sometimes you will have to wait half an hour, sometimes you'll have to use a really slow site and wait 3 hours. Big whoop. You could have already downloaded them by this point for all the time you spent complaining about it.
I'd also advise you to use an adblocker on those sites, some of their advertisements are misleading download buttons that want you to pay for nothing.

Other than that, contact your fucking retailer and replace your product. Tough shit.

EDIT: You can even go back in time and use eMule, FFS.

Okay, people are starting to cross the line between being constructively helpful and just being mean.

TL;DR roms are easy to get but we can't link them. No need to pay for them though. Sky is a perfectly fine card if your firmware is too high for Gateway or custom firmware.

You gotta understand, 2015, smartphones galore, how the fuck did he find gbatemp, this year in particular is the year of noobs for some reason.

I can't even believe there are actually people out there who don't know how to use photobucket and post images in forums from there, and I'm not talking about the gramps.

I do have to admit I'm pretty disappointed with the way the community has been acting in this thread as well. Especially the basic failures of reading many have exhibited. I do hope we can get some solution working for you soon, though.
