Here's a option instead of sending it to gateway. I'd purchase a 3ds motherboard (just seen a XL for $57 including shipping on ebay) And I would switch out the motherboard myself. It would either be hackable or not. But lesson learned either way. So the end user can fix it themselves if they choose to. btw you should be able to score one cheaper in a Auction

Did I read this right... did you actually just say this exploit which CLEARLY STATES: System Settings/Other Settings/Profile/Nintendo DS Profile is NOT what Gateway uses? Please tell me I'm wrong.
Actually yes it is pretty short. You forget that they need to hire factories to produce the carts, purchase parts, etc.
Actually you know what since it seems we're getting no where with this endless bickering I'll just end it on the note that no one but Gateway themselves know when the OS was made on their 11 month timeline.

Im pretty sure they are using the MSET hack based on what Smealum has said. I couldn't give you a 100% FOR SURE confirmation, but its fairly likely that is what they are using. Besides, im pretty sure someone found out about the MSET hack before gateway, there was a thread here a long while back about how the "crash" might be useful since it gave userland access. Plus, you may be able to talk to some of the people here on the forum who have looked at the code from Gateway and made their own tools using it.
I would like to know if they really were using something else, it would be interesting (im truly curious, im not trying to be sarcastic or anything like that).
Nope, I'm telling this line of text is not the exploit. It describe the error message they got.
I'm asking for the about details of the actual exploit. The one GW is using.
Based on this alone one could say it took at max 6-9 months for Gateway to have a working OS.
It depends whether we look at it from the discovery of the mset hack or the ROP chain being made.

Hmm ok, so GW and 3dbrew both messed around in "System Settings/Other Settings/Profile/Nintendo DS Profile" if I understand you correctly.....and? It doesn't mean it's the same exploit. It doesn't explain how the exploit work. Accessing the file system of a device give me nothing.
to long or corrupted strings (01Ah 2 Nickname length in characters 050h 2 Message length in characters) in the NVRAM DS user settings cause (System Settings/Other Settings/Profile/Nintendo DS Profile to crush) (this is still 3DS mode)
I'm going to take a WILD guess and say it either makes this string in the NVRAM DS user settings too long or corrupt.
