It is too, if I only own a 3DS and have no access to youtube or any other video service and I liked this short but I would rather spend a buck to watch the video again then buy a PC or smartphone to watch it free, then its just like me owning an iPod Touch and not wanting to spend money for a android phone just to play angry birds.

Who doesn't own a PC in this day and age? That's like saying you don't have electricity in your house.

Because this hasnt happened on many other consoles and devices before now has it? Its a video that was shown for a brief period of time on a video service, many people liked this video (inculding me) and would indeed buy it for a buck. Think of it as one of those Open Demos, where its like the whole game but it gives you like two plays, this is in a way the same thing.

No, that's not a valid comparison at all. This is more like giving you an entire game for free and then taking it away and saying you now have to pay money for it. An "open beta" (which I'm guessing is what you were eluding to) is for testing a game and fixing any problems with it. Or it should be. Otherwise it's just used for hype. People play the beta for a bit for a taste of what is to come, knowing that it's only just a beta, and can formulate a decision on whether or not they want to get that game or not. There was no indication that they were going to suddenly start charging for free content, nor was it indicated that this was essentially a "demo" for their video program.

If it takes you more then 30 minutes to burn through that game without going for 3 Stars on each somethings wrong with you.

The game definitely takes you more than 30 minutes.

Hmm, so I can listen to a 3 minute song a few times yet thats less likely then me watching a 7 minute video more then once? Yeah that makes perfect sense.

It does. If you buy a movie, how many times will you watch it in a month? Maybe once or twice. If you buy an album you enjoy, how many times will you listen to it in a month? Multiple times. I've probably spent hours listening to just a single song I really enjoyed over the course of my time having it. Hell, some albums or songs I enjoy so much that I listen to them almost every day. But I don't go home and watch Shaun of the Dead every day because I really like it.

Well, why are you watching the 5 minute Youtube videos if its boring you? Just watch something you find funny or something.

Which is why Youtube is free and I can just switch to another video on the fly and I don't need to worry about throwing my cash at a video.

Its an example. If you really want a more "realistic" example then think of it this way, I buy Street Fighter IV for Xbox. Then I buy it for 3DS, did I get ripped off because Street Fighter was cheaper for 3DS then Xbox just because I would rather play it on the go then at home? No. Same for if I would rather watch the video more then once in 3D for a reasonable price then at home on Youtube in 2D for free.

I was talking about a demo that shows you pretty much the entire game without charge and then asks you to pay in order to play it again, I have seen quite a few indie games set up this way thats why I used it, I would have just said Beta if I ment it, just a note for the future ;)

Hmmm, lets think this over, did they ever say the video was going to be available forever? No. So then wouldnt thinking for it as a demo be valid? Isnt a demo essentially a sample or preview of content that you can see before you buy? Last I looked, yes. Plus, your looking at it the wrong way, its not a game, its a video. Just because they didnt plan on selling it doesnt mean its suddenly a rip-off simply because they suddenly wanted to. Maybe Demo was the wrong word but its essentially the same thing and it has happened many times before. I dont see how charging you to see a video you only got a chance to see a few times is any different then letting you buy a game you only got to play a couple times.

It takes you more then 30 minutes.

Ive beaten all the levels in atleast 33 minutes. It maybe more then 30 minutes but its totally not even close to "a couple of hours"

Good Point. But, most of the time you hear that song you buy you wont be listening to it on a hourly basis. Whos to say you would watch the short everyday? You would take it out and watch it when you felt to watch it. Just like you would with a song.

And doesnt really have anything to do with this, I shouldnt have responded to that. :glare:

It seems people tend to forget that its a 1 dollar video. some group liked it and so they thought they could sell it. End of story. I dont see how this is such a "suprise" or "outrage". Or how it has ANYTHING to do with some 3D MOVIES, that were promised.

I distinctly remember Nintendo saying they were partnering up with dreamworlds to bring all the latest movies to the 3ds.

What the fuck happened?
How many dreamworks movies (other then puss in boots) have you seen out lately? I think its more of a problem with dreamworks then it is with Nintendo.

Well, there was also Kung Fu Panda 2 right before that movie, and they have another Madagascar slated for this June plus the Rise of the Guardians (whatever that is) set for November. When it comes to getting movies out, Dreamworks is pretty much like a factory.

Even if that wasn't the case, though, why couldn't they just convert their preexisting library to 3D?

I don't know, it seems that either the deal ultimately fell through or they're holding the releases back for whatever reason.

Hmm, your right, I forgot about Madagascar 3 and KP 2. Maybe a deal really did fall through, but TBH does anyone here, REALLY want DREAMWORKS movies on the eShop?

You know what I'd pay for? A video player for my own videos (not the Camera version, but a real one), with the ability to play them in 3D if the video contained it. That way, I could take my own collection, convert it to the proper format, and store them on my SD card.

VLC port for the 3DS with MKV compatibility. :tpi:

Even though I think "the 3D machine" is by very far the best video that was on the video-app I don't know if that's a reasonable price...

Also what does "watch again" mean? If you pay can you stream it again once or do you download it and therefor own it permanently?
I'm guessing each vid is a separate app of their own, kinda like the downloadable game previews. also, they already did this previously, with the Shrek Halloween shorts.

I don't see how this is news. :/

How To Train Your Dragon 3D was awesome, but then again I have mine converted and sitting in my 3DS Album. If you can't appreciate awesome like that...

but to answer the question, no, I'd prefer Dreamworks movies ON RETAIL CARTRIDGES. And I want pixel-perfect video quality w/ Dolby Surround sound on that. I'm willing to pay DVD price for one, but no higher.

Even for Veho's MP3 comparison, odds are if you buy a song, you'll listen to it quite a few times. You'll probably get your money's worth. Here, the odds of you ever watching an average looking 7 minute short again is really slim.
Back when Neurotically Yours was new, I watched every episode that came out 20-30 times. Knew most of them by heart. I've watched some episodes of Invader Zim over a hundred times over the years. Same with some Monty Python sketches. The odds of me watching a short I particularly like multiple times are pretty good, actually.

So what you're saying is you don't see why people buy movies. Fair enough.

Some people buy movies, despite the fact they might not watch them more than once a month (if that). A new movie will cost you $15-20, so if it's two hours long, it comes out to 6-8 minutes per dollar. So $1 for a 7 minute video is in line with general movie prices :ha: And some people will watch it a lot of times. So buying a 7 minute video makes as much sense as buying a movie, and for those that will watch it 50 times or more (a sizeable, if dull, portion of watchers) it makes as much sense as buying a song.

I think the main reason nintendo isnt doing this is theu ont want to have the chance of someone creating a video file that would lead to an exploit
