After over 20 years of participation in the annual CES, Microsoft has announced that 2012 will its last year exhibiting or holding events at the popular electronics show.

Revealed today in a blog post from Microsoft's vice president of corporate communications, Frank X. Shaw, the company said that after 2012, the company will no longer operate a booth or host a keynote address.

They'll probably start holding their own keynote event like every other company seems to be doing nowadays.

Honestly, Microsoft's CES keynote was the only one I actually watched. I'll miss it.

I've heard about the Tokyo Game Show being seen as irrelevant, but CES? This is definitely a surprise.

I'm interested in hearing their explanation... whenever they get around to it.

I guess it has been long known that Microsoft has been trying to emulate Apples 'success'.

This is just another move by them to bring them more inline with their operations and will start hosting events of their own.

Yup, that's what's going to happen. Don't really mind it + from a business perspective, I think that's beneficial for them. On CES there are hundreds/thousands of products shown, it's very easy to see your product get lost, and not getting the attention it deserves.

I think it's a good idea to not do a keynote at CES. But I still think it's a good idea to show off products at CES. Just to get the word out.
