<div align='center'>I see Hype threads for Video Games, PC Games, Systems, and even other Operating systems everyday, that's great, I'm glad people get excited about stuff, but I cannot find or recall one time where we had something like this. So I just had to make one!

A Linux Hype Thread! Since this is a Desktop/Laptop Oriented thread, Android doesn't count. There hasn't been a single Linux Distro oriented Hype thread on GBATemp in it's existance it seems. So, I only found it fitting to make this one about a certain well-known and lovely distro that seems to be able to fit anyone and that so many dearly love, the Distro for Human Beings and I guess also Semi-Humans like myself...

</div>

<div align='center'>Ubuntu 11.10 (Codenamed Oneiric Ocelot) is set to be released this month, namely on the 13th, and assumingly also it's KDE (Kubuntu) <img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/kubuntu.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />, XFCE (Xubuntu) <img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/xubuntu-41x41.png" border="0" class="linked-image" />, and LXDE (Lubuntu) <img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/lubuntu-logo-small-new.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /> flavors . </div>

<div align='center'>So 10 More days fellow *Buntu users! How excited are you about this!? I know I'm so excited that I actually installed Beta 2 of Oneiric Ocelot, and I am totally loving it!

<div align='center'>Needless to say it lives up to what people are saying. Even in a beta, I have had far less program crashes, issues, and gripes than Maverick Meerkat (Version 10.10) and Natty Narwhal (Version 11.04) ever gave me. Stuff runs almost 3x faster than it did before, my computer's boot time has been halved, and for the first time upgrading to said Beta Release didnt foobar everything on the system!

With all this in mind I personally think that Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot takes the competition against Micro$oft Windows and Apple Mac OSX in general to a whole new level, even in beta. Without a doubt I personally must say that Micro$oft and Apple should be very afraid of Canonical right now, and should be asking themselves where their god is when Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is released next year. 11.10 has proven to me that even in a supposedly unstable state, Ubuntu is an OS that just works, and exceeds anything a user could ever hope and wish for, without the price-tag so many of it's proprietary rivals have </div>

Moving on to more important stuff here..

Oneiric Ocelot brings several changes, some of which are good, some neutral, and a few are bad.

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> A new Login Screen/Display Manager, LightDM</b></u>
GDM has been replaced with a more Lightweight and equally functional equivalent called LightDM. You can still change the background and in fact it's a bit easier than it was in the latest GDM.

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> It's about damn time! GDM eats up resources faster than KDE4 ever did! LightDM seems to not only load just as fast as SLiM, but also has the functionality of GDM, it's some right stuff</i>

<b>Note: </b>The config file which determines the wallpaper and GTK theme for LightDM is in /etc/lightdm/unity-greeter.conf. Use the following command to edit it!

gksu gedit /etc/lightdm/unity-greeter.conf

The image path must be absolute, which means it must be exact! No symlinking or using relative paths! Examples of what to do and what not to do in this config file are below

<ul><li><b><!--coloro:#006400--><span style="color:#006400"><!--/coloro-->Right way<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b></li></ul>
background=/home/nimbus/Pictures/UbuntuOneiricWallpapers/onericpawprint.png

<ul><li><b><!--coloro:#8B0000--><span style="color:#8B0000"><!--/coloro-->Wrong Way<!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--></b></li></ul>
background=$HOME/Pictures/UbuntuOneiricWallpapers/onericpawprint.png

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Loss of Synaptic Package Manager being installed by default (Bad Thing)</b></u>
Synaptic Package Manager is no longer installed by default, but will always be available in the Ubuntu Software Center for those that wish to use it.

<i><b>My Thoughts: </b>

</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Speed Increase</b></u>
It seems that Oneiric Boots faster, loads stuff faster, and generally works better than Natty

<i><b>My Thoughts: </b>This may just be my machine though. If that's not the case than all I can say is hawt damn!</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Loss of Classic Ubuntu Desktop </b></u>
All good things must come to an end. The original Gnome2 desktop you saw and loved in the past is gone. Unity and Unity2D run on top of Gnome3 now, and the Classic Interfaces have been completely abolished. The good news is for those who cant run 3D Unity, 2D Unity is now included by default as well. Again though, everything perishes in the Software world at some point and either goes to /dev/siliconheaven (Heaven) or /dev/null (Hell), so this is a necessary evil. Unity aint that bad though, it brought unification to the indicator area, which is something that was always lacking.

<i><b>My Thoughts: </b>Rest in peace old friend...you shall not be forgotten.</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Ambiance and Radiance Themes are now GTK3 Compatible</b></u>
The Ambiance and Radiance default themes now have a GTK3 version which is bundled with their GTK2 counterparts. So now your GTK3 apps can look less fugly and more pretty!

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> I never really appreciated the default themes until this install, and until after I removed and got rid of all the old themes I never use anymore. Radiance is actually quite nice in my Openbox DE, and Ambiance is just purdy in Unity. Now if they would just port/make versions of the Equinox Theme Engine and it's Themes for GTK3 I would be in nerd heaven!</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> New Smaller/Altered DVD ISO Images</b></u>
Something else new to Oneiric Ocelot is the tweaking of it's Install DVD iso images. They are now only 1.6GB in size and do not include everything (They do include Libreoffice, some extra drivers, and a few other things the normal install CD lacks). So no more having to wait for hours on end as a 4.2GB Iso is downloaded.

<i><b>My Thoughts: </b>Something that should have been done starting with Lucid, but again the foresight wasn't there at the time. Better to do this with a Non-LTS (Long Term Support) Release anyway</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Gnome Shell now usable when Unity is installed</b></u>
Gnome Shell, which is the new Shell for Gnome3, can now be installed and used without breaking Unity!

<i><b>My Thoughts: </b>Good to see the two now playing nicely together. Be warned, Gnome-Shell requires 3D Acceleration</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/kubuntu-logo-only_32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Kubuntu/KDE 4.7 seems to run better</b></u>
Something in KDE changed between Natty and Oneiric. In Oneiric it seems to be a bit faster now and alot more smooth.

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> I never thought that I'd switch from Xfce4, Unity, and Gnome to using KDE, let alone see the day where KDE took less system resources than the three mentioned (Seriously, with 5 Tabs open in Firefox, Kate, Terminator, and Banshee all open, I am using only 700MB of my 4GB of Ram and 10% CPU Average over all of my 4 CPU's, which is just Bawws!) but this release literally convinced me. I adore KDE now!</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Banshee is now the Default Music Player</b></u>
Banshee which spitingly is based on Mono (You'll understand if you read up on the issues surrounding it), is now the Default Media Player. It's actually better this way as Rhythmbox is no longer actively developed.

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> As much as I hate Mono myself, I still will use this Music Player as it can play some videos as well and it's easier for me to use personally, and I've grown fond of it. It still crashes if you try to import too many songs at once.</i>

Notes: <i>Unless you're using this extension, uninstall the banshee-extensions-ubuntuonemusicstore package. It causes Banshee to freeze upon changing a song and gobble upwards on 70%+ CPU. Not sure what in the package is causing it, but removing it remedys the situation, and brings no negative side effects other than not being able to use the Ubuntu One music store in Banshee</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Thunderbird replaces Evolution Mail.</b></u>
Ubuntu finally flipped the perverbial middle finger and threw Evolution out the door. Thunderbird has taken it's place as the default mail client.
<i>
<b>My Thoughts:</b> Bout f---ing damn time! Evolution is bulkier, less resource friendly, less user friendly, and less stable than even the Nightly Builds of Thunderbird, why we kept it up till now is beyond me.</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Unified Messaging Menu</b></u>
If you do alot of Emailing, IM, Chat, etc, you will nerdgasm over this! All of the chat, IM, and Mail clients are now integrated into the messaging menu, most if not all without the need for plugins. Even Thunderbird works with it now! Take note that this only applies to Unity+Unity2D

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> sudo massive-squee-of-joy that is all....</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Software Center gets a Major overhaul</b></u>
Reviews, ratings, a more polished and user friendly look, need I say any more

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> Because I use synaptic or sudo apt-get from the command line, I'm a bit biased in this case. I'm not terribly fond of the software center. It's still alot nicer looking than it used to be though! The reviews are a nice addition as are the ratings, albiet the latter may become a double-edged blade in time.</i>

<img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/iconCircle32.png" border="0" class="linked-image" /><u><b> Firefox, Thunderbird, and Libreoffice now have working Global Menu's in Unity</b></u>
Albeit the support is not built in yet, the packages for these are now official and they now work well instead of crashing or not working with every update

<i><b>My Thoughts:</b> I'm not a fan of using Unity, as I'm a KDE4+Openbox3+Xfce4 user, but it's nice to see these small things working properly.</i>

There are many other new things in Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot other than these, but I don't have the time or desire to post them all, it would make this thread look too cluttered.

Also, for those that wish to try out/use Oneiric Ocelot currently, here is a link to Ubuntu's Official "Technical Overview" page for Oneiric Ocelot Beta 2. On that page are links to pages with the downloads/isos, as well as instructions for installing fresh, and upgrading from an existing instal. I am not responsible if you break your system, nor is any other entity or person other than yourself. I am just providing them as part of this hype thread to those who want them.

<b>Important: </b>Back up your /home partition and potentially your / partition beforehand. You'll at least thank me for that!
<b>Important:</b> I would personally only attempt an Upgrade from Natty to Oneiric.
<b>Important:</b> Do not tell the installer to format your /home partition if you have a seperate partition to /home. Only tell it to use the existing filesystem type and to mount it as /home!

<a href="https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricOcelot/TechnicalOverview/Beta2" target="_blank">https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OneiricOcelot/Techn...lOverview/Beta2</a>
</div>

<div align='center'>Also, here are some Oneiric Ocelot themed wallpapers to help celebrate it's soon to be release

<a href="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/variations-on-oneiric-ocelot_1_original-size-png.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/variations-on-oneiric-ocelot_1_original-size-png.jpg.tn.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/egfox_the_oneiric_ocelot_blue_by_eg_art-d3eoa13.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/egfox_the_oneiric_ocelot_blue_by_eg_art-d3eoa13.jpg.tn.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/ubuntu-oniric-ocelot-52.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/ubuntu-oniric-ocelot-52.jpg.tn.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/ubuntu-oniric-ocelot-54.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/ubuntu-oniric-ocelot-54.jpg.tn.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/6032122295_a6a25fab8a_b.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/6032122295_a6a25fab8a_b.jpg.tn.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/OCELOTE_PRIMER_PLANO.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://pix.gbatemp.net/226159/OCELOTE_PRIMER_PLANO.jpg.tn.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a></div>

<div align='center'>So all in all, I'm looking forward to the Final release of Oneric Ocelot, and I almost wish this was the next LTS, it would make a kick-butt LTS and the name would match 10.04 (Lucid Lynx). It's kinda funny how all the feline-named Ubuntu releases end up being so much better and cooler than the non-feline ones.

So, exclaim your hype fellow Ubuntu users of GBATemp</div>

Can't wait myself. I am wondering how the aesthetics on KDE will be. I do love Ubuntu I just wish the developers would find some way to incorporate main retail games or the ability to play them on said computer (yes, yes I know WINE and no I don't like). Just think how well Valve would do. Anyways back on topic I can't wait for the official release and I do wonder if they toned the memory usage for netbooks. Another problem I had on this latest version was being able to adjust the window height for the netbook which right now the screen resolution can only be set to 1024 x 600 which doesn't really help to much if your trying to click ok, cancel, or whatever else may be there.

11.04 works well for me. I don't use Unity though and instead stick to GNOME2 with Docky installed as I love that method of window management.
I have tried both Beta1 and Beta2 of 11.10 on their respective releases and...well it was meh. They'll have worked out 90% of the kinks since then but all I remember was shit crashing on bootup. No idea what it was, or what was going on but something crashed and it was very unstable. Waiting for the full release before I install it.
I do remember the Unity interface had been improved VASTLY though. So I may use that. Will also install the GNOME3 interface as well just for variety.

I forgot to mention folks, and I'll likely add this to the OP as well.

If you're running Beta 2, all you need to do is keep up on the Updates. When Oct 13th rolls around the update you apply will cause your install to reflect being it's final release. One more advantage I guess to trying out Betas.

Still facinated with the stability of this beta...

Oops....spoke too soon...apparently now 3D Unity will not load. I can get the panel and the Unity Dock, but then it crashes x back to the LightDM Login screen.

It's probably my fault though, something I did probably foobar'd it, so I can't blame it being a beta for this.

Edit: Backed out to a tty, killed all XServers, ran this command "sudo aticonfig --initial" since I have an ATI card and I am using the Proprietary Drivers, and everything works smooth as butter now.

Anyway, I really wish Onieric Ocelot had been the codename for the next LTS release. I like having feline based codenames for LTS releases. Either way it looks to be promising.

Oh and I didn't really expect this hype thread to be that big.

helpme, try installing xubuntu-desktop or the xfce metapackage, it's the closest you will get to Gnome2 now, and to be honest it was always more lightweight than Gnome.

Course if your machines beefy like mine, you could always try Kubuntu/KDE. I still love Openbox the most though.

after my tour through quite a few linux version I ended back to xubuntu many of the changes are not relevant to xubuntu but some of the updates will be quite nice, I couldnt care less about default software as I always remove the default software I dont use and add the programs I do use. I also never get to see the login screen because that saves time so I also dont really care about that.
I personally am not really exited about it its more a nice ones released but not something I will mark on my calendar or anything

How can you fail to see that ignorant statements such as these completely defeat your own campaign in promoting the OS? How can you see having an essentials only lightweight operating system or even something so basic as the ability to play computer games without limitations and hassle as something that "exceeds anything a user could ever hope and wish for"?

Operating systems have different pros and cons. There is no one operating system which is better than all the others in every aspect and therefor fits everyone perfectly. In making an operating system user friendly, you have to take away customizability and add bloat that an experienced user will despise. Similarly you won't get a user friendly operating system if you leave the customization to the user and only put the essentials in. Having a bunch of settings, removal tools etc in an otherwise user friendly OS also does not solve the problem of appealing to all users, it takes a lot more than that to actually appeal to minimalists or even people who just don't want to run something clearly full of stuff they don't need.

On the internet it's very common to see people bash Apple fanboys for their religious worshipping of Macintosh computers and their operating system. While bashing such religious worshipping may be warranted in itself, do Macintosh users today really flaunt their operating system enough to deserve such criticism? I must say it's hard to tell, because any actual praise will quickly dissapear in the cloud of baseless hateful comments from Windows users.

Praise for Ubuntu however, that's something I can't say I don't see a lot of. In fact, I see it all the time. This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that the praise is of the kind you demonstrated in the quote above, praise of the "my operating system is best not only for me, but also for everyone else"-kind. The difference is that these comments don't dissapear in a cloud of hate. Why is this? It's because the reality actually isn't that Microsoft and Apple should be afraid of Canonical as you imply, the reality is that the operating system has a marketshare of below 1% and no one gives half a fuck about Ubuntu besides its Zealot users.

I'm a Linux user and I think people like you bring shame to our community. Not because of the operating system you use, but because of the way you flaunt it. It's true that in every userbase there are people who will do this. The difference is that yours takes it to a whole new level.

TL:DR..no JK. I did read all that.

I did not create this thread for your sort of belittling or this sort of discussion. Oh and really, we own more than 1% of the market, I'd say it be about 5% or so, and you have to realize our strength lies in the Server Market. We're just taking our sweet time on the Desktop Market half, since we'd rather make a stable ground for it than build it on top of sand so to say.

Oh and you also fail to look at it in different perspectives. Not everyone plays computer games, and some of us that do only play via Emulators. Ubuntu and many other distros have tons of those, Steam runs just fine in Wine, and WoW even works in Wine.

Also, that little piece you seem to be trying to pin on me of "My operating system is best not only form me, but also for everyone else!" I never implied, or explicitly stated that at any time, and I'm quite insulted and as a result, angry that you would even attempt to make it look like I said that. If I had ever intended to say that, I would have said it as is, but I didn't so I really haven't the slightest clue where you are drawing that conclusion from. I also am quite ammused that you are getting the impression that I am flaunting it, which I am to an extent, but I'm not flaunting it like it's better than everyone else, and perhaps the statement I made about "Microsoft and Apple should be afraid of it" gave that impression. That was never the case, what I was implying is that they need to be on their toes, because Ubuntu is getting to be so good, it could easily take the Desktop Market by storm, and possibly take a good chunk out of the users of the two OS's for itself. People are curious these days, and with the economy as it is, people are looking for alternatives that don't cost $200+, most of said people also being willing to learn how to do stuff that they normally take for granted on a Computer.

I admit, Windows has it's uses, Mac OSX has it's uses, Ubuntu and all other Linux distros have their uses, but Ubuntu suits me best, and for when I do need Windows, I have VirtualBox.

For the average everyday user that doesn't play complicated games, needs word processing, and all those other necessities that often require a huge sum of money to afford, Ubuntu and many other distros provide all that for free. One cannot disagree that this is a considerable benefit, and many people given just a few minutes and some help getting stuff like Flash, etc up and going (Not even that hard now that Ubuntu allows you to install them from the restricted repositories during the OS installation) would likely love it. Hell my Cousin, a traditional Windows user thinks it's KDE interface is "Hot shit", and was flabergasted when I told him that Ubuntu isn't the only distro with this sort of thing, all of them do.

Oh and for the record, I have never been an Ubuntu Zealot. I personally have used OpenSuSE, Arch, Fedora, Debian, and even Mint in the past, it's just Ubuntu is what I feel most comfortable with. Personally I don't like the Ubuntu Community on their forums too much because half the questions I ask get buried in other questions that deal with simple shit that any user of any experience group could figure out on my own, and I never get an answer for my problems. Thankfully I end up figuring it out on my own eventually.

If you really wanna see some Zealots, go to the Gentoo forums, and to an extent the Arch Linux forums (Arch Linux users have really mellowed out though in the last few years). Gentoo's forum community was so unfriendly to me there and so egotistical, I simply skipped trying the distro out.

I honestly believe you typed that all up just to flame me and deter this thread from it's original intent. I fail to see your point or the conclusion that you are drawing from my statements in my Original Post here in any way, and as such I might as well just disregard that huge long statement of yours as if it didn't exist.

Anyway, back on topic people. This is an Ubuntu Hype thread, I'll most likely do one for another distro some day, but this one is for Ubuntu. Granted if this pointless bashing and flaming and lack of ability to take things in a context other than the one initially forseen in one's mind continues, I may not do any hype thread for any distro/OS in the future. Really your choice.

That's where I stopped reading. There's a temptation to troll, since it's so easy, but I'd rather not incite the flamers.

Reality disagrees. Barring Android, all Linux distributions combined only have around 1% marketshare with Ubuntu actually having only around half of that. Practically no one uses Ubuntu server and as I don't think you could possibly be deluded enough to think so I guess you must somehow misunderstood the topic of my entire post in this thread about Ubuntu: Ubuntu.

I also am quite ammused that you are getting the impression that I am flaunting it, which I am to an extent, but I'm not flaunting it like it's better than everyone else

Ubuntu is an OS that just works, and exceeds anything a user could ever hope and wish for, without the price-tag so many of it's proprietary rivals have
By describing an operating system which exceeds everyhing a user could ever hope, how are you not describing it as the best operating system for everyone? You'll have to point out how to interpret this statement so that it doesn't describe the best os that could ever exist, at least in my mind everyone is a user.

The difference being that Ubuntu users flaunt their distro everywhere on the internet to a great extent. Try finding a single "Which Linux should I get"-thread anywhere on the interhet where Ubuntu hasn't been claimed to be the _best_ or recommended despite ridiculous hardware limitations.

You seem to have taken my post very personally. Perhaps I should have made it more clear: rather than caring particularly much about you coming off as flaunting Ubuntu specifically (which you certainly did even if it wasn't your intention), I care about the whole Ubuntu userbase doing so. Plz stop.

They 'flaunt' it because it's just the simplest one to use. Nothing extreme to get started, no worries about command prompts (unless you're looking to dwell into the world of linux). Sure it's not as artsy or high up there like Gentoo or Arch... It's still not something to bash on. FAAAR better than Windows I say. Given it's limitation to the gaming world.. It does pretty much everything else.

I guess I wont be doing these hype threads again, because a certain someone can't be civilized and actually drop the matter for once.

I only tried to stir up some hype, I know my choice of words or statements may not have been the best, but honestly, do we have to troll up this thread!?

Anyway, back onto the subject here..

If you use an ATI Radeon Card, dont even bother with Gnome-Shell. It shears, and distrorts apparently, but we can blame that on the Gnome Project's lack of communication with ATI I guess. 11.9 FLGXR barely remedys that issue.

I still don't like Gnome-shell that much, but it is pretty damn sick in terms of appearance.

I've seen no trolling, Mazor made good points. If not agreeing with someone is counted as trolling, then everyones a troll.

Ubuntu eh? My favourite flavor of linux, but I really don't like linux that much. I don't use Unity, it's too clunky, like Windows Aero.. I use XFCE, I like the dockbar.

I personally use KDE as my new laptop runs it like a beast, but still purs like a Kitten while doing so. My Macbook on the other hand, blazed fans almost full blast with KDE running.

As for my absolute favorite. It's the grand daddy of all Lightweight Environments, Openbox 3! This bad boy consumes less resources than anything else on my system, and I've learned to make it look quite nice and pretty, and functional. Openbox once you get the hang of it, is ludicrously easy to configure.

Eh thats where you're kinda wrong.

He does make good points, but did I make this thread to argue about Ubuntu being a better OS or not (No OS is the best really)? No I didn't did I!

Henceforth, I can consider that trolling via "Off Topic Posts". It's not that he isn't agreeing with me, and I don't expect anyone to agree, it's the fact that he deliberately is trying to derail a perfectly good thread, my thread in fact, by arguing and just not dropping it. Had I wanted to argue, I would have made a thread for just that, but I didn't.

Again, Hype Thread for Ubuntu, not Argue Thread for Ubuntu. I'd like to drop these arguments here and now, before any of us get in trouble.

I could care less about it, I'm just going to stay with 11.04 with Gnome 2.

I just upgraded to narwhal, not sure I'm ready to install a newer version just yet. I'm not convinced Unity is that much of an 'upgrade'. I mean if I wanted a task bar and a start menu why not just use Windows? Of course the task bar (launcher) is pretty easy to hide.

I would be impressed if my multi touch track pad worked though... -- well for pinch and zoom. Two finger scroll does work now, so that's pretty cool.

If Ubuntu want to progress somehow they have to grab a share of windows users and if it want to do that it would have to provide an upgrade the same way android is grabbing mobile market.

Ubuntu? We don't know what it is but I heard its the best thing to have so i want it!
