Hi everyone,
I'm very grateful with everyone who contributed to this guide. It's very comprehensive and useful.
However, I think the title of "Modify ANY Wii 4.3 & below" is kind of inaccurate. tl;dr ahead...
My situation:
A friend just lent me a stored away European white Wii console, for the weekend, so that I would play a bit with a recent game console (my newest console is a Dreamcast). He was kind to tell me that it was unmodified, not modchipped, not softmodded, as the community uses to say: virgin, console.
I got it this evening, and set it up. The version: 2.1E. Really old. Awfully old. No mods, so I can't test any of the games I want to test, neither use some homebrew that I'm psyched to use.
His only game: Wii Sports (as usual).
I then started hunting for information, going there and here, calling some friends who had Wii also. My friends weren't as useful as I would expect, some got a modchip, some got softmod because their IOS versions are compatible with the usual tools.
I read some topic here: I have to run Mario Kart Wii to update it to at least 3.1. But, living in an South American country, it not easy to rent/get a Mario Kart Wii EU disk, I can't even think about Zelda or any others.
Then I arrive here, and lo and behold, the topic actually says that I can use this tutorial in ANY Wii, to at least be able to install Homebrew Channel.
So, I email the account that is announced here, I get the file and download it, unzip it to my SD (note: not HC) and then run to execute the patch, and the Wii gets frozen. Odd.
A note in the topic says "If it freezes or nothing shows up, try another version of bannerbomb". I downloaded every file (from 1a to 50, version 1.08). I replaced the files in the SD, tried to execute the steps, froze again and again. (NOTE: I'm now wondering if I should just download the versions 1.03, 04, 05, 06 and 07 (1.02 is not available, albeit it is shown in the archives listing) also, and try again (tedious work)).
End tl;dr.
Thus, this brings me to this sticky situation: I haven't been able to install BootMii! And there was no special note in this post whatsoever remarking any workarounds for firmware versions lesser than 3.
So, any insights on this case and a relation to this tutorial contents? Do I really have to hunt and crave for an original EU Wii disc (with an update inside)?
Thanks again, and sorry if seem kind of pushy/rude, but I just like to state the facts.
