NOT TALKING ABOUT 3DS2 I'M TALKING ABOUT OFFICIAL GAMECUBE EMULATION
From the launch of the Gamecube, the mini-CDs of the Gamecube always made me wonder if Nintendo were considering/planning the possibility of releasing a portable console that could run Gamecube games. The CDs aren't much larger than a UMD, so for a slightly larger than PSP sized DS, it'd seem perfect.
I haven't held a DSi XL, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were a perfect match.
And then with the 3DS leak, it sparked a connection. That old news about how the Gamecube was released with 3D capabilities designed, but never released. But were the games coded to be in 3D (similar to how Gameboy games were designed in Color), or did the console itself just have the capabilities?
If the games were coded to be in 3D (potentially), even some, a 3DS Successor with Gamecube backwards compatability is a match made in heaven, as it would finally be able to use that 3D ability.
If not coded in 3D, the disks themselves are small enough that it's not too farfetched. The only real issue is lack of a CD-drive, but who knows what an official emulator could do on the next-next-gen hardware.
