I wanted to download the new BBCiPlayer for Wii (for my parents mostly) and it asked me to update, so i went on system update and clicked on it and it said -

"Please note that any custom modification will be deleted" etc. etc.
Which a nice way of saying OMFG LETS BRICK YOU MUHAHAHAHAHA.

Is it safe to update?

Thanks,
Cameron.

I believe updating to 4.2 removes all home brew from your wii but if you follow this excellent guide http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=171901 you can install it back on again.

I have used this guide to hack my Wii and am in the process of updating a friends wii to 4.2 from 3.4 to do the same.

Not sure if updating an already hacked wii can cause problems but I guarantee someone here will know

If you ONLY want to update the wii shop.

Run WiiSCU.24 from wiibrew

Install IOS61 and The wii shop.

Do what longtom1 said and use WiiSCU. If you're on 4.2 and are seeing that, you didn't update the shop channel.

BTW, a hacked wii will likely always think an update's available, since it sees that the stubs for cIOS are missing.
