hello everyone, i'm new here and to all this mod stuff. I followed 4.2 guide after many others and I really owe a big thanks to xzxero for get'n this out.
bow.gif

I do have some questions that I hope someone can answer and/or show me the way to find an answer. Since there are so many pages I figured it would be easier to just ask.
I have 4.2u firmware/cios rev14 everything else is working fine.

1. I really wanted to play backup games via neogamma (r8 beta 3) but i get a "1027" error. I read somewhere that I may need WBFS in order to do this but
To be honest I'm not sure how to use either.

2. Is there a topic on "how to use the wad manager and wad creator"?

I have a few more but will save for another time.
1. how are you trying to play your games?
2. wad manager is pretty self explanatory. wadder + novices = brick. stick to premade channels.

QUOTE(Dirtie @ Oct 15 2009, 07:39 PM) Quick question.

All I want to be able to do is upgrade to 4.2, install the homebrew channel and be able to play WiiWare/Virtual Console games, which I assume I need Waninkoko's cIOS for (249 right?). Not interested in dvdx or bootmii or other unnecessary cIOSs or anything else, just HBC (and WAD manager obviously) and Wiiware. Which steps should I take and which steps should I skip to be able to do this?
update via nintendo then do
steps 1-5 on the 4.2 method.
1 will get trucha back in so you can install your cIOS.
2 will delete the stub IOS's from the 4.2 update.
3-4 will install cIOS onto your system
5 will allow you to play wiiware/vc games via the sd card menu.

Another quick question, is there a certain cIOS revision that's the most suitable for use with Wiiware/VC? Or does it not matter and should I just use the most recent version (rev14 I assume)? The only reason I ask is because I am currently running rev9 IIRC, and I remember rev10 being released and introducing features I would never use (support for USB devices in retail games etc - I prefer to rely on my drive chip) and having issues like slower loading times etc. Sorry for the noob questions, but my knowledge on this is very basic since I don't really follow the Wii hacking scene too closely

those games use IOS53 and IOS55, as long as those are updated you should be fine.
which they should be if you update via nintendo.

Thanks for the great tut. Can't believe I messed up somehow...

I currently have the following error on the screen: "Exception (DSI) Occurred!" with different codes (stack and code dumps).

Here's what I did (new virgin console):[*]Updated via Nintendo to get 4.2.[*]Extracted newmod.rar to 2GB SD card (listed as compatible card). Verified structure.[*]Followed instructions and installed Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and Bootmii as IOS (boot2 was not available).[*]Created NAND backup and let it verify it.[*]Shutdown Wii, moved bootmii folder to computer, copied installer.log, keys.bin and nand.bin to computer.[*]Put SD card back in Wii, powered on, followed steps 1a to run trucha bug restorer. Pressed A a number of times until it was done. The first two times it said "load IOS from SD", something different the next few times - there were no options, something like "press A to continue...".[*]Started to follow steps 1b to run the trucha bug restorer again. For the "Choose IOS15 and press A. (Important)" step, I used the left button to cycle through the different IOSs until it showed "IOS15" and then pressed A. This is where I got the error message. I didn't get to the "Wait till it says Press 1 then press it." step.I have done some google searches and have found that this error tends to come up most often with USB loaders. I was only able to find one related issue, but there was no resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, is it safe to power off my Wii? What steps should I take next? Hope I didn't already brick the thing.

Edit: Well, at least it doesn't appear to be bricked. I have restarted and can get back in to the trucha bug restorer. I tried step 1b again and got the same error.

Edit 2: This is resolved. I tried a number of times without luck at first. It only worked after completely unplugging the Wii and trying again (thanks xzxero). Note: I did not need to restore IOS15, as suggested later on.

I need help!

Doing the steps of 4.2

I"m currently STUCK on this step below here:

4a] Run cIOS 222/223 installer v4
Choose IOS 249 for installation.
Install Custom IOS 202 and select IOS38 merged with IOS6

When I choose IOS 249 and press *A* button my controller turns off, and its doesn't get recognized by the wii (just flashes for signal but nothing)

Is that normal? Is there anything I can do to continue on the Step... because I press *A* nothing happens on the screen.. only the issue with my controller
By the way if I turn off the Wii and go again to that step, and instead of *A* button I press *B* which is cancel... that works perfectly fine.. so why the heck if I press *A* it turns off my controller?

You may Email me for the help: [email protected]

thnx

Thanks for the guide.

But this guide does NOT work for "any Wii", at least not the backup part.
The latest Wii's with D3-2 chipset does not launch backups from DVD, no matter what.

It may be my fault for not reading every thread on the forums but adding a note to that regard would not hurt.
it still works for any wii because those wii's can still load off a USB loader using the cIOS from the guide.
so its still modded.

Look, people come here and take a look at your guide to see which Wii's can be softmodded. At least i did.
I know it was stupid on my behalf to trust your guide when it says "5] Allows your Wii to play Wii backups directly from the disc channel, through a backup loader, and/or via usb." but I simply hadn't read about D3-2 at that point.
It would be great if you could mention that these new Wiis exist and that they will only allow USB loading. Or change the 5] sentence.

yes but theres no way of telling it a d3-2 drive until you try to play a backup and it doesnt work.

All the more reason to mention it, isn't it?
For example in the "after modding" part.
"If you have a very new Wii and it fails to run backups from DVD, you may have a drive with the new D3-2 chipset. For now, you're going to have to use a USB loader.

Ignore my message below fixed it, tried another SD card now it fully worked =)

------------------------------------------------------------

sorry but.... you told me to go back through 1 - 4

Well somehow I'm now getting stuck in the very beginning:

1a] Run Trucha Bug Restorer
Press B to choose No IOS Reload.
Wait till it says Press 1 then press it.
Go to Downgrade IOS15.
Press A to downgrade.
Everytime it says "load IOS from SD" press A.

1b] Run Trucha Bug Restorer
Choose IOS15 and press A. (Important)
Wait till it says Press 1 then press it.
Choose IOS36 menu. In there use these settings:
Install IOS to slot (36)
Hash check (trucha) YES
ES_Identity YES
Nand Permissions YES
Then press A on install patched IOS36.
Everytime it says "load IOS from SD" press A.

I run *1a perfectly fine, but after I start with *1b when choosing IOS15, its gives me a huge error screen

Exception (DSI) occurred! ..blah blah blahhhhhh numbers
Stack Dump... bla blah blahh numbers
Code DUmp... blah blahh blahhh numbers

Can you help me out to see whats wrong here? Before when I did the steps where I got pretty far and got my controller issue This Beginning part it passed it perfectly fine... so why isn't it working now giving me errors? Is there a way I can re flash it or something to start over clean?

Thank You

Thats the same as I get. Someone replied to my post saying I don't have the trucha bug but I do - and this has happened on both Wii's I've done since 4.2 - They are both Pal wii's?

To the other people getting the:
Exception (DSI) occurred! ..blah blah blahhhhhh numbers
Stack Dump... bla blah blahh numbers
Code DUmp... blah blahh blahhh numbers

This seems to be a random thing. What I did was go back to 1a but chose restore IOS15. Once that was done go back to 1a again and start again - it seemed to work fine after this?

I got the same "unable to read ticket aborting mission" error when trying to install preloader. What worked for me was installing preloader 0.29 first. Then I went back and tried 0.30r3 and it installed without the error. I'm playing my burned backups now and my 1TB WD My book will be delivered later today!
