Hi. This is my second post... I haven't been more than a lurker to this forums, even way before singing up.

I know there is a translation request sticky thread and indeed, I posted my request there several months ago (that was my first post). I was just hoping there was some better way to motivate someone into translating a game... You see, I want a game translated pretty badly. I'm willing to pay for it, but I don't know how much would make a fair price enough to get it started... so please, just say it.

The game I need is
Ganbare Goemon: Toukai Douchuu

Release date
July 14th, 2005

Game info
The Gambare Goemon series is one of Konami's most prolific ones. Made a few appearences in America under the name of Mystical Ninja. I've been a huge fan of it for quite some years, because of the action, the wacky medieval japan theme and of course, the quirky humour. Impossible not to love.

The game was very popular in Japan, but Konami never anounced a Western Release.

Screenshots
It just looks beautiful.

Thanks in advance and I understand I'm not even suppossed to start this thread. So I would understand the consequences.

Asking for ROM translation is indeed pointless (and will annoy the hell out of most users).

If you want a game to be translated then do it yourself, or patiently wait until someone spend their time and energy to do it. Asking will not speed up the process, and its not like there is tons of ROM hackers sitting around twiddling their thumbs, just waiting for someone to ask before they begin. If someone has experience with translations/hacks, and has the interest in doing so they will do it regardless if newbs spam the boards asking for it. There is literally thousands of Japanese DS games that haven't been translated yet, and if everyone just sat around and asked for each one to be translated it doesn't help anyone at all. So please be patient, or do it yourself.

Translating ROMs is a tough and demanding process that can take several months or even years of daily work. Maybe you should try learning Japanese instead.

Learning Japanese could also take a long time, the dialogs in most games aren't that simple to understand when you learn some Japanese...
You really need to learn a lot if you really want to understand a game.
So, translating ROMs could be a faster way. Especially if you are a very busy man...

I didn't meant to piss off anybody... I'm really sorry.

You are right, Mahe. I've considered learning Japanesse before. Can't be a bad idea. When I'm done with Portuguesse, Japanesse is next in the line. Too bad I won't use it for anything else than watching anime, reading mangas and playing videogames (you kiddin' me?? what else could you possibly want to learn a foreing languaje for???). I understand translating a rom is a very demanding and even boring thing to do. That's why I'm offering actual money. But anyway. I'm currently getting a book by Miyuki Miyabe translated to Spanish (the one based on the ICO videogame, for PS2). The price for getting that done in my country is somewhat affordable. I'll try to figure how to get the text dump and get it translated. And then patch it all back up. I hope it's more or less as easy as that.

I believe there was some big roadblock with translating this game... sometime about the font/text compression being terribly complex and would require a major rewrite of the game's code to work correctly.

Alright. That was not the answer I would had liked to read. But I'm really glad I know it now. Thank you very much.

You know what would be even better than learning Japanesse and French? having a half French and half Japanesse girlfriend. And who also happens to love videogames and anime
yay.gif
. Thats like the Holy Grial of girlfriends... Now where the hell am I suppossed to get one of those from?

Anyway... Considering this game was out very early in the life of the NDS and that now we kind of know a bit more about it... do you think some kind of detour for that roadblock could exist by now...?

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
