Can something be implemented to identify these partial files on the HD in the list, with also a means of deleting them ?? or is the file just overwritten when re-installing the game the second time ???
This is covered it that magic little readmii file. Read it people. It really is a smart little file and it might answer your question as well as the next one you would have asked. That's what it's there for, so you don't ask the same question that was just answered for somebody else.
FYI, I downloaded the file in the first post (USB Loader GX V 1.0) and there is know "magic little readmii" in that pack. Just the .dol, .xml and .png for the loader.

So next time try making sure the file you refer to is accessible or perhaps post a link to the answer in the thread your referring to or post the "magic little readmii" for the people that may not have it.

readmii
I did not put together the pack that you downloaded nor do I have anything to do with keeping it updated. But next time I talk to the people that do, I'll ask them to put the readmii in there.

REPLY FROM ME:
Thanks that would be great, but my question never got answered and I still don't have the readmii.

Occasionaly when I start the loader with the hdd powered off it will give me the 'wait 30 seconds...' message which is fine.

Sometimes however after it's detected the hdd it will tell me that it can't find the wbfs partition and would I like to format the drive? After a restart it finds the partition and everything is fine.

Would it be possible to make this a little safer? (Maybe suggest selecting format from the main menu, and having the menu item compliant with the general parental settings?)

I'm terrified that this is going to happen when one of my kids is at the controls and they hit the format button.

I really like the child-friendlyness of the loader - the parental controls are excellent and I'm happy enough that there's not much damage my kids can cause, but it would be nice if this one also obeyed the parental controls.

word up yall,

can anyone explain the alt dol from disc please?

i have burned a redsteel onto a disc then inserted into wii, changed setting to load dol from disc then gat "no dol found"

am i understanding this right that instead of having the alt dol on the SD we are using a list on the loader to specify where each dol is on thew ISO which has been burned

OR are we meant to be on the USB HDD

OR are all the alt dols meant to be burned indiviually onto a DVD and inserted into Wii?

nice 1

it isn't what i would call completely functional, but here's the skinny. if you have a game that is an alt dol game, go into the game specific settings and put the "alternate dol" setting to "dol from disc". then go down 1 setting and click on "dol from disc". this is where is isn't really done. the idea is that since you have the iso on your drive, then you already have the alternate dol that is needed to run the game. the way we are telling the wii to load this dol is based on the number of files that come before it within the iso. there already is a list of some games and the correct number of the file stored in the loader. if you click this option and we already know the number, then you will be asked to use this number. if you say no to that option or the number for your game is not known, then we attempt to open the iso and list the possible dols and their number for you. sometimes this leads to a code dump and sometimes it works. if you do see the list of dols from the iso, just click the correct one and confirm that you want to use that. then save the settings and launch the game.

currently the list is using the same number for all regions of a game, but i just learned that fifa 08 uses different offsets for different regions, so i'll have to switch it to know the difference. the list would be more complete, but only 3 people have bothered to help with the list and i only own 3 of these games, so it is like it is. if you feel like helping, just shoot me a pm with the full 6 character id and the # of the dol file.

Awesome work! Thank you very very much
Just 3 questions:

Is there a channel installer (wad) yet for version 620?
Is it better to update GX through the built in updater or just use the new dol provided?
I know how to install the channel via wad and the GX through the dol. The forwader thing confused me a bit. What should i do exactly? Also, if i use it, will it erase my existing channel that i have installed via the wad?

Keep up the good work guys. It's really appreciated!

i have changed the list in r622 to using different numbers for pal/ntsc/jap games. if you use one of the suggested numbers and the game doesnt work, try it with the dol on the sd and see what happens. it could me that your video settings or something else are messed up. if the game loads fine with the dol on sd and not with the number that we have in the app, then try to say no to the option to use the number we have and pick it yourself from the browser. if the game boots fine with the dol you selected and not with the one built into the app, please pm me the game ID and the number. and ill look into it.

r622

Got to say, loving the new alt dol feature, Red steel works like a charm.

I'm having problem with the alt dol feature on PAL MOH: heroes 2[ RM2P69] using cIOS38v13a and 249, when i click on alt dol from disc everything freezes.

Having the same problem with Safar'Wii (PAL). Tried r609/r620/r623 and did not help. I choose "Alternate dol from DVD" and then the option below that and the menu stops responding (I can still click on menu-items, but they won't respond and once I have clicked on a item I can't click on it again). This is on a PAL Wii with 3.4E and cIOS13b.

That's exactly what's happening with me. I'm using a PAL wii with 4.0e

This is a known issue as giantpune noted in his post at the top of this page. Please bear with the coders while they sort it out. I will note though that I was able to boot all of my altdol games (RedSteel, MOH2, Mortal Kombat, Fate of Atlantis) without issue on rev620. 4.0U / cIOS 222.

Also, keep in mind that you should delete your config files when updating to a revision that introduces new features. This is a simple fix that will more than likely solve your problem.

"load xml at startup and keep it in memory instead of each time the game info is called. it adds 1 second to my startup time with 100+ games. just testing to see if breaks anything doing it like this now that the xml is much smaller."

What happened is that I updated ALL from whatever older dol I was on to whatever is the current on the update feature (R620?). When I went to view the synopsis, no information is shown. I thought maybe it never updated the wiitdb.zip file. So I plug it into my card reader and the file is a 26K with my 57 games. Looked in the XML file and it appears to have information in it. So I decided to get the 596K file from the wiitdb website manually. Now all I get is exception error. Could it be that the Wii has run out of memory with the new implementation? If so, that is a bad idea since not everyone would be updating from their Wii so their wiitdb.zip file would be much bigger.

*Update*
So I made a current build R624 and with the full wiitdb.zip file downloaded from the website and it appears to work. One other change I made was delete all the .cfg files on the config directory. There still appears to be an issue with scrolling the synopsis where some text is missing when you scroll towards the end and even when you scroll back to the beginning, the first line is missing at times.
