I think I did really well here!!
I bought a DS Phat when the DS was first released, there were something like 5 games available, the only good one being Mario 64 DS. People (including my mum lol) kept saying maybe better to wait and see if more good games come out. I ignored their advise and went ahead and purchased. There was a few months when the game releases were slow and unspectacular and I worried. It wasn't long before things started picking up and I officially loved the little console.
At this time I was working in a Sony Centre and colleagues started saying things like "Wait till the PSP is released then you will realise the DS is pants" and "The PSP is going to completely kill the DS". I'll admit that I bought a PSP and really enjoyed a couple of games on it, but for some reason I never bonded with the console in the same way I did with my trusty DS. I felt like it was kind of delicate and it was also a bummer that you couldn't just close the lid in a hurry, then open up again when you are ready to carry on playing. I think I sold my PSP about a year after buying it and continued to play my DS Phat in the meantime.
Not too much time passed before the release of the DS Lite and I was desperate to get my hands on one, but being a student I just couldn't justify spending out on a new DS for the few improvements that it boasted. The biggest thing for me was the improvement in the screen brightness. Anyhow not too long till mobile phone shops started giving the DS Lite away with higher rate call packages. Luckily for me someone I worked with (not at Sony anymore) bought one of these packages and was surprised to get a free DS Lite but was also completely uninterested in it. I offered him £60 for it but said he may get more on eBay. A week later, once he decided he couldn't be bothered with eBay he said OK and sold me the DS Lite.
To top things off I sold the DS Phat I already owned on eBay for £70. That meant I had the newer DS and was £10 bargain!
I still own that same DS Lite (in black). I am a big gamer and would say that the DS is by far the best console I've ever owned. And yes I really do mean that. I've spent more hours on the little system than any other I've owned. Awesome!!!!!
