I am glad the restore point worked. I personally only use that as a last resort and I mean a last resort but it is not a bad thing to use and can get you ou of a jam.

What I recommend is that you download this stinger type program. Let it do an express scan then once done do a complete scan. I have used this utility to get em out of some sticky situations with some rescent viruses.

Wow not to bump an old topic, but I was the first one that told you to do safe mode and system restore! Man, I guess nobody reads my posts cause I'm a newbie still.

Welcome back, man i read yourt post it was really epic. Anyway if i were you (which I'm not) id always back up ALL your stuff just in case things like this hapeens, and make sure you always have an XP CD or a Ubuntu live Disc, which you can just pop in anytime just in case something like this happens.

I have had your problem a number of times over the years.

The best solution I found apart from System Restore is to start the computer in Safe Mode Command Promt.

Once loaded type chkdsk -F

It scans the harddrive and repairs any damaged sectors. Which normally solves the problem.

lol, I love the way people never make backups then get annoyed when their computer screws up (which is often, if it runs wind'ohs)

no, really, I do, they pay me £10 an hour to sit and watch knoppix copy files to a hard drive and install windows
