The project doesn't sound too crazy. I'm currently working on my third year Electrical engineering project which uses IR transmitters and receivers. If I have a few spares lying around I'll give it a try.

Lets use our brain here, the signal sent to the speakers, is an ELECTRICAL signal, that exact same signal can very easily be sent to an IR LED instead.

All you would need to do, is wire up an IR detector instead of a mic, point your tv remote at it and record the signal as sound, any sound recording software should work. Then just wire an IR LED as a speaker and playback the 'sound' through it.

Pretty clever idea I must say. It would be nice to use the headphone output on the DS with an IR adapter as a TV remote.

Ive been looking at this before, I even tried to buy a total remote, didnt realise it was quite so simple to make one

the possibilites for this are quite exciting

I'll be watching this topic eagerly, I believe some code has already been created and is open source for interacting with IR via the headphone socket

I just tried building one, for some reason I dont think I am getting any output, I assume this because when I try and view the diodes through a camera I cant see them emiiting any light.

Ive seen a few different guides one saying I should use a resistor, another saying I should use a capacitor (to build up power to enhance range) and a final one saying I should just solder the diodes to L+R channels 2 diodes between the pins one positive one negative.

anyone had any luck with any of the guides?

Your welcome, i never knew no one ever thought of this though. Really, people thought of cellphones, emulators, and browsers which require no ram. Yet no TV. remotes?

Also, can anyone help me with my moonshell? It says my volume is at 0, and now i have to use DSOrganize, which has a horrible music player.
