It's very rude to call others an idiot when you don't even know what an IR is.

common sense?

dude, it's common sense that your firmwares will fail.
why don't you go call yourself an idiot?

and people with average knowledge won't know the limits of hardwares. Everybody knows that you don't know deeply into tech, either.

wait, will you add a TV remote support in your firmwares???

COMMON SENSE MATE!

using the term god to call others an idiot... how blasphemous.

will you fuck up you cunt stop saying i don't know things when i do i know what an ir is there in you wii sensor bar Fucking Knob

knob is not the word, and it doesn't even sound like "noob"
added to the official noob-ish language

"there in you wii sensor"
lololo
so laughed
fix your grammar

so just because you "know" something doesn't mean it's common sense.
do you know what "common sense" is? well hell I think you don't know what it is.

Learn how to use words and phrases before you post, or you will end up like hazey.

The project doesn't sound too crazy. I'm currently working on my third year Electrical engineering project which uses IR transmitters and receivers. If I have a few spares lying around I'll give it a try.

Infra-red isn't a sound.

Lets use our brain here, the signal sent to the speakers, is an ELECTRICAL signal, that exact same signal can very easily be sent to an IR LED instead.

All you would need to do, is wire up an IR detector instead of a mic, point your tv remote at it and record the signal as sound, any sound recording software should work. Then just wire an IR LED as a speaker and playback the 'sound' through it.

Well lately my dog ate my remote, and now i have to get up to change the channels (THE HORROR!) so i was wondering if anyone knows an application where i could change my tv's channel, or volume, or turn it on.
I know its possible because its possible to create a tv remote from an old ipod nano, so im wondering if anyone has made it.

You can use a Pocket PC with an IR port =)

homebrew hardware for this idea....

now just need some programmer to write an app to playback the waves on button press
Pretty clever idea I must say. It would be nice to use the headphone output on the DS with an IR adapter as a TV remote.

Oh wow, people are taking my idea on, hopefully you guys find out a way to make it work by buying something off the internet, Then my DS would be complete with literally EVERYTHING.
Internet, Drawing, Animation, Phone, Games, Music, and now i can control my tv? Yay

Ive been looking at this before, I even tried to buy a total remote, didnt realise it was quite so simple to make one

the possibilites for this are quite exciting

I figured it might be cool for some DS/Tamagotchi interaction as detailled here http://blog.makezine.com/archive/2005/06/t...is_what_it.html

I'll be watching this topic eagerly, I believe some code has already been created and is open source for interacting with IR via the headphone socket

I want to thank Balrogs.Pain for the idea, it is easy, cheap, useful and just fun

. When I make a IR thing I will try and make a homebrew for it.

I just tried building one, for some reason I dont think I am getting any output, I assume this because when I try and view the diodes through a camera I cant see them emiiting any light.

Ive seen a few different guides one saying I should use a resistor, another saying I should use a capacitor (to build up power to enhance range) and a final one saying I should just solder the diodes to L+R channels 2 diodes between the pins one positive one negative.

anyone had any luck with any of the guides?

you can actually see the original Griffin Total Remote patent online which has some schematics

you will need to create a free account though ...

Your welcome, i never knew no one ever thought of this though. Really, people thought of cellphones, emulators, and browsers which require no ram. Yet no TV. remotes?

Also, can anyone help me with my moonshell? It says my volume is at 0, and now i have to use DSOrganize, which has a horrible music player.
