Hardware Makeshift tri-tip screwdriver? Or any other way to open wii w/o cash?

Well, either
A) My wiikey is poorly soldered and it is screwing up or
B) my laser (hopefully) needs its pot tweaked/ (hopefully not) is fried.
Basically I can't recognise backups anymore, and legits work till like the first menu, then crash.

Problem: We are literally broke, as in I have to get a job to help pay our internet this month, so I can't afford to buy a tritip or send it to some pro to fix it.

IS there anyway to create a fake tritipscrewdriver from household stuff? Or is anyone in the south california area willing to lend me a hand?

Please, any help would ___REALLY___ be appreciated, I'm dying without my wii.

I've tried with lot of things, and nothing seemed to work. The only way, without damaging your screws (if you do this you might never get it up), is to get the screwdriver sorry. But wth, it's not that expensive? I don't live in the USA, but i would guess $ 5-10 ?

Drill the screw out , then replace it with a self tapping normal screw. Short of that , I think you'll have to buy one

You could go to Sears or somewhere, and get a jeweler screw driver, that's what I've been using. Sears is great with it since if you get a Craftsman it has lifetime warranty, and these things break like crazy, from Sears anyways, just go back and get a new one every so often. Forgot what size flathead I was using, 2mm or something like that?

You could have got one pretty cheap at DX. 95c + free shipping. But on the downside shipping usually takes like 5 days.

Before I had a tri-wing I used a 1.4mm flat-head. the trick when using a small flat-head instead of a tri is to apply firm pressure before you start turning the screw. also, make sure the screwdriver is centered evenly between two 'wings' so you get good torque.

The screws that strip the easiest on the Wii seem to be the two black ones under the face-plate and the screw that holds the battery-cover in place.

Does the bic-pen trick work for wii, or only for the gamecube? stok3d has good advice - apply lots of pressure when trying to undo the screws.

A hammer would work. Or a big rock. j/k

i know to open my wii my dad just took a philips screw driver and sanded off one end and then shortened on the sides and it worked perfectly, hes an electrician and used to making bits though.

I don't see how you can't afford a tri-wing screwdriver, they cost less than $2 on dealextreme with free shipping. That is the surefire easiest way of getting your wii open. I tried with other tools and ended up almost rounding all of the triwing screws, so I ended up getting a proper triwing screwdriver and that worked perfectly.

If that fails, try throwing it out of a 2nd floor balcony. That will definately get it open

Done this many times using a melted, shaped and cooled biro pen.

It requires a certain type of plastic that's strong, this is usually the clear plastic found in the biro brand. Heat the end, push it onto the screw so it takes shape, pull it off and run it under cold water.

You do realise you are all replying to a 5 year old thread that was largely answered back when it started. Beyond that things have changed in the past few years and now I routinely find them in standard security bit sets in hardware stores (they are used for more than just Nintendo gear these days) and anybody can get one on the likes of amazon for less than a pint with free shipping to boot. Back then it was a somewhat specialist thing that you either had to get one, at not inconsiderable expense for a screwdriver, from an import/mod shop or wait 4 weeks and use dealextreme or an equivalent (r.i.p. winsunx).
