So, I installed ISFSHax, what now?

I decided to check the NAND using wafel installer and I got a critical error that the NAND is failing. I installed ISFSHax immediately. What to do next?
I have no clue.

Since you already installed ISFSHax, the next step is to set up redNAND, so the console boots from the SD card instead of the failing eMMC. Follow this guide:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...0-0103-failing-emmc-without-soldering.642268/

You can skip the "installing ISFSHax" section of the tutorial. That part is already done on your console.

One thing worth checking first: by default, the guide only redirects the MLC to the SD card (mlc=true, slc=false in rednand.ini). That was enough in my case, since my SLC was still healthy enough to host minute. If your critical NAND error points to the SLC rather than the MLC, you may need to redirect the SLC as well.

I did this yesterday to my Wii U, which has a failed MLC/eMMC. It is now running redNAND and is working again. I also did the optional "Installing Plugins to SLC (instead of SD)" section from here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-set-up-isfshax-stroopwafel.642258/. This is optional and not required to fix your console. However, if you do it, BE AWARE that you need to use the fw.img from the root of the SD card (cf. the notes for redNAND written in red).

As a result, my once broken Wii U does not boot into the failed MLC/eMMC at all anymore:
- without an SD card inserted, it boots into the minute menu instead of attempting a normal boot (which would hang on the failing MLC).
- with the SD card inserted, it boots into the redNAND located on the SD. It runs a little slower than stock, but it is yet another Wii U resurrected from the dead.

Yes, thank you. I actually want to verify that ISFSHax is installed successfully. But I couldn't get into the minute menu with the power buttons or I must do something wrong.

I used the wafel installer to install ISFSHax and it all installed automatically.

I only have a 32GB SD card if I can use REDNAND and/or backup the NAND with that?

Last Edit version: 14.10.
Reason: added information about my Wii U. :)

If ISFShax was installed successfully, the console should boot straight into the minute menu when you power it on; no button combo needed, it appears before the Wii U logo. So if your console boots normally (or into the 160-0103 error), the install didn't take and you should simply reinstall.

Or did you already set up autoboot in `sd:/minute/minute.ini`? If so, press POWER or EJECT during the autoboot countdown (3 seconds by default) to interrupt it. Alternatively, you can temporarily rename `minute.ini` to something like `minute.bkp`; with no minute.ini present, minute shows the menu on boot. Make sure to rename it back once everything is working, so autoboot returns.

If you suspect a broken fw.img on the SLC: put the current fw.img on the root of your SD card, tap the power button once to turn the console on, release it, then immediately hold it again for about 3 seconds ("skip SLC mode"). This makes ISFShax skip the SLC and load minute from the SD card instead. Spamming the power button while booting works as well.

For reinstalling ISFShax, I can recommend the Wafel Installer: https://github.com/zer00p/wafel_installer. You can launch it directly from the Wii U browser at wafel.xyz; no PC required, and it doesn't even need an SD card (USB works too). It works on a stock Wii U as long as the browser still runs, and it can also be launched from Aroma (as .wuhb file) if you already have that set up. It automates the whole setup: ISFShax, Stroopwafel CFW, Aroma, SD/USB partitioning, and even the minute autoboot/timeout settings. I used it on a Wii U that was still fully working and setting up ISFSHax using Wafel Installer was pretty convenient.

I think I need a video, but what I noticed is the LED on my Wii U is purple now and stays purple in Aroma. What does that mean? Does that mean ISFSHax is installed? If so, think I have broken fw.img files since that takes me to the official NAND dumper instead of the minute menu.

You likely only have the bare ISFShax installed, without stroopwafel and minute.
You can can download them from https://isfsh.ax and extract the content of the sd folder to the SD. Then the minute menu should show up when you put the SD in.
If you already have the fw.img on the SD make sure there is no autoboot in the minute/minute.ini

USBMLC is also an option instead of redNAND depending on what you have or prefer to use
