Hello folks,

It was time to clean out the crawlspace again and go through my belongings. I stumbled across this blast from the past here :yay::

Pulled it out of a DSi where I had completely forgotten about it for about a decade. Turns out, the card still works in the system I pulled it out of, a DSi running FW 1.4.1U:

Found all of my old pokemon saves on there, spent probably three hours just going through everything, so far so good. I did some quick reading online and read that a DS flashcard should work fine in a 3DS running Luma, and promptly inserted the card into my Old 3DSXL and my New 3DSXL. This is where the trouble starts. The New 3DSXL does not even show a banner for the cart, instead just shows white everything:

The OId 3DSXL gets a bit further and at least shows me the right game / banner (Fish Tycoon):

When launching the game / card on the O3DSXL though, I just get a white screen with nothing at all happening. The card works perfectly fine on the DSi, fails to launch on an O3DSXL, and doesn't do anything at all on a N3DSXL. What's going on here? Naturally, all 3DS models are on the latest firmware and Luma as well.

I would like to continue to use this card for nostalgia's sake, and because I think it is a pretty cool artifact from back in the day. It also does something Luma can not do: NDS Game savestates. I can basically do real time saves and loads with this, this is handy in games where saving is limited, or you just want to try the same fight again and again, for example. So the card has still a (niche) use for me.

Trying to troubleshoot this a decade later when all original websites with firmware have gone down doesn't exactly inspire confidence, and I'm a bit worried to just start replacing files on the SD of the card. I already made a back-up of what's there, but I'm not sure how to proceed with this. The card also bulges and is kind of tricky to get in and out of the slot, but I remember this was always an issue from day 1.

Kind of curious about the genesis of this as well. Obviously I bought it from GBATemp or through one of their authorized retailers / whatever at the time, it came in a nice little tin box with the GBATemp logo on it too. I have no clue what I bought this for, can someone tell me what I might have paid for it? Does anyone know how many of these there are floating around (the limited GBATemp edition)? Is there anything special about it, save for the (faded) sticker on the card and the tin it came in? Can't honestly believe this place used to sell (or distribute through other retailers) flashcards back in the day, but I got proof right here :rofl2:.

How do I get this working on a 3DS running luma?

Does anything different happen if you try to launch the card via TWiLight Menu or NTR Launcher instead of from the home screen?

It also does something Luma can not do: NDS Game savestates.
A few flashcarts advertise that feature (as "RTS" or "real-time save"). I understand it doesn't always work very well, since it doesn't quite save as much of the "state" as it should..

The RTS feature of the card works extremely well on the NDS games, I have used it lots and never had any sort of issue with it. Just hit the full hotkey, save / load and it does exactly that. I have a few other flash cards that advert this feature, and I've had issues with the RTS before.

Anyways, launching the card via Twilight menu on the N3DSXL or O3DSXL just leaves me with the top screen white, the bottom screen black. Twilight menu just shows "slot 1" where the card info / banner should be. Matter of fact, after trying to launch the card through Twilight menu, my card slot on the 3DS remains inoperable until I reboot the console (doesn't read normal game cards anymore). What's up with that ?

I might as well ask if anyone has the firmware package / zip for the card, I'm not even sure I have all of the necessary files. I know it's a long shot, but if not here, then where?

I have attached a link to both firmware updates and the EOS kernel to copy over to the microSD. So update the kernel to EOS 1.14 first, install the firmware update, and then the patch which should make your flashcart work with Luma3DS.

The reason why it didn't work last time has something to do with how the cart blacklist patches work in Luma, and is known to cause issues with *some* pre-existing carts to my understanding (i.e. StarGate 3DS in DS Mode). The new spoofed game is "Alex Rider - Stormbreaker (THQ)" and is compatible up to the latest DSi/3DS system firmware.

I dropped the EOS 1.14 files on my SD card, now when launching the card it straight up takes me into Fish Tycoon proper (the beginning of the game, then crashes), the card doesn't launch properly anymore. Just what I was afraid of :(.

I tried various files from here as well, some are _nds folders, some are .nds files, others contain a ds2boot.dat, others have a dstwoupdate.dat, I have no clue what to do with these anymore.

Edit before I even post this: I restored everything to a known working state (thank jeebus for backups I made before touching anything), dropped a dstwoupdate.dat file on the card (figured it would get picked up by something), launched the card, the "OS" asked me to update from 1.05beta to 1.25 at the startup, I went through with it. The card showed up as "Alex Rider - Stormbreaker" afterwards, and is working perfectly in the N3DSXL and everything else :yaynds: . Sometimes I guess I just have to roll up my sleeves and not be afraid to break stuff. Would have really sucked if I needed a DS with a lower FW in order to do the update, but I guess I skated by just fine.

Thanks for the help and the links, this little artifact will now permanently stay in my 3DS and "protect" the card slot. Now, does anyone know how much these were being sold for back in the day?

Hurray, I'm so glad you got it working fine in the end. :grog:

As for how much the DSTWO carts cost back then; according to nds-card.com (originally GBAtemp's sponsor), it would've costed $40.99 USD as of late-2014 (https://web.archive.org/web/20141118065532/http://nds-card.com:80/ProShow.asp?ProID=135).

Huge relief to finally get it up and running on the 3DS, yes! The card is arguably the best flashcard I have ever owned, and it was the best money I have ever spent in that regard. Bit steep for a flashcard in... er... 2011? (when was this available for purchase?), but you know "Limited GBATemp edition", I was a sucker for that lol. About $60CAD plus shipping and whatever sounds about right.

Three things the card did that I haven't found in other flashcards:
- Good, solid, reliable RTS saves for NDS games
- Being able to toggle cheats on and off on the fly without having to exit and restart the game
- Has a (albeit pretty limited) code scanner on it to create simple cheats, like ones that freeze values, on the device itself.

The 2nd point turned out to be of major importance to me. I don't own any other card where I can, once the game has started, press a button combination, and toggle cheats on and off. The 1st point is nice when playing all kinds of games, but I could probably live without it. The cheat code on the fly activation though? Never again without it! The 3rd point is unexpectedly handy to quickly freeze simple values for which no individual cheat codes have been made yet. It's a powerhouse of a card, is there anything out there that has similar functionality? Not just functionality that's advertised, but actually works?

Again, much thanks for all the info so far and helping me getting the card running on a 3DS!

The DSTWO has an alternative update method that works by placing the update file on the SD card, renaming it to "dstwoupdateb.dat", putting it into the 3DS slot and leaving it there for at least 5 minutes. It's a bit scary because there is no progress bar, but it works just fine if you really wait for the given time.

any one know why my SuperCard dstwo 4in1 refuses to update?
I copy the update files to my sd card, but once I boot up my system,no update happens.
the help menu when browsing my games says "dstwo menu 1.11"
I have tried with a ds phat,DSi (fw 1.2J),and n2ds

The 4-in-1 is the Plus model. Only use the update patch under the directory "SuperCard_DSTWO_FWUpdatePatch_20150703", and do not use the 1.25 patch to update the cart as it is not compatible with the Plus. The rest, is by copying the latest EOS kernel onto the root/parent dir of your microSD card.

hmmm
the .nds update file says 'no need to update'
the 1.14 eos is installed, yet I still read "DSTWOMENU 1.11" under the help menu...
