@shaunj66 A couple of months ago I found somewhere in the site preferences an options to disable showing new topics and posts related to "World News, Current Events & Politics". I think the option was in preferences, somewhere near to the "OpenDislexic Font" setting I think.

Those were some very healthy couple of months, I stopped seeing these notifications and falling into the cesspool of human behavior that is to be found on that side of the forum, a cesspool that is as addictive and healthy as heroin. Unfortunately somehow the option is not there anymore, and in any case I never reenabled showing these topics but here I am, falling again into this pitfall of eternal damnation. Did I dream about this site setting? Was it never really there? Am I going senile here?

I don’t know what state the allegations are in because frankly it wouldn’t change my mind on it being off putting or weird, but Florida has an age of consent is 18, and if it was in VA (or DC) that’s also 18 too. Regardless of the distinction between pedo vs ephebophilia, while often used interchangeably in these types of discussions is not really moralistic stance rather just a catch all term for underage, 17 would be a big no no and very much legally considered underage. And if he didn’t ask for age or ID, well, sucks to suck, that’s not a valid defense.

If your sister was happy getting married at 16, I very much wish her the best and hope she’s still happy.
