Been bingeing some
Halloween movies, starting the other day on, uh, Halloween.
This series has more timeline fuckery than The Legend of Zelda. So far I've gone this particular route
Partly for Jamie Lee Curtis, and partly because H20 is the only one that I actually saw in the cinema when it came out, back in the tail end of the previous millennium. I could tell I'd seen at least part of the original 1978 movie before too, idk if I fell asleep in front of the TV or what.
Anyway, my feelings from this viewing - the original number 1 is a pretty solid classic, earlyish slasher, banging soundtrack obviously, final girl putting on a good show. Number 2 followed on pretty well but JLC spent too much time lying/sitting around looking scared while others were taking part in the action. H20, big time jump, we'd all been told in great detail by the Scream movies (footage from Scream 2 shown in H20 fwiw) how the scary movie rules had changed by this point, and it was fun to see JLC take on the modernised final girl (final middle aged mom?) trope and kick some butt. Resurrection, bit of a waste of an important character and bit of a silly trash movie, whatever, I don't watch slasher movies for the intellectual stimulation I guess.
I might go back and hit up the rest of the retro '80s/'90s timeline next, or at least as much as I can take of it, before rejoining JLC for the most recent 3. I'll get to the Rob Zombie versions at some point.
