As of two months ago, Duckstation now uses the same texture pack method as PCSX 2 you enable the same setting and same folder structure with SLUS-95431 goes in textures etc.... only game I found so far was Vagrant Story done by IceBullet on Youtube

Not expecting much but here are some I would request: Suikoden 1 & 2, Lunar 2, OverBlood 1 & 2, The Legend of Dragoon, Galerians, Driver 1, Dragon Warrior VII, Castlevania Chronicles, Brave Fencer Musashi, Koudelka, Alundra.

Edit: just read the only difference is you also need to check "Use Old MDEC Routines" under graphics > texture replacement > general settings, and also under graphics > texture replacement enable VRAM write replacement, and make sure you update Duckstation if you have an old version.

As of two months ago, Duckstation now uses the same texture pack method as PCSX 2 you enable the same setting and same folder structure with SLUS-95431 goes in textures etc....

It's not the same as in pcsx2, it's much more complex.. There are a bunch of different texture dumping modes with different params and how you need to set up is highly individual. I'm using this for a few weeks and sometimes I have to switch dumping modes even within the same game to get the textures that I need. Some textures doesn't dump or replace at all so far. So there might be bugs aswell. It's brand new, keep this in mind.

So before you start making multiple texture packs, I recommend to try dumping and replacing textures in different spots, different kind of textures etc. to figure out what is working and what is not. And if you find something that doesn't work, don't complain, report it to the dev, the bugs won't be fixed, if the dev is not aware that they exist. Also be kind and not rude, if you do so. There was a lot of drama with the first implementation years ago and I don't want this feature to abandoned again because of some rude kids.

Plus keep in mind that the PS1 has more limitations than the PS2. It only knows 3 alpha levels. 0%, 50% and 100%. The alpha level of a texture is hardcoded. Most of the time opacity is either 100% or partially 100% and partially 0%. 50% is rare. And since these values are hardcoded, you have to respect this. If you don't clean up your textures after upscaling them, every pixel that doesn't match the alpha level of the original texture will end up black in your texture replacement. Often notable at dirty outlines of texture sprites. So this is not a bug of the implementation, it's just how the PS1 works.

There might be more limitations that I just forgot about, but you see, it's more complex than other systems. So don't be mad, if something looks wrong and most important don't annoy the dev. Anyone who has followed the development of this feature over the years, let it be in Duckstation or in Beetle PSX, knows how difficult it is. The dev made a great job.

This post is not meant to be nasty or lecturing, but I want to avoid having a bunch of kids who don't know how to use an image editing program complain to the dev and make him stop working on this feature (again).

You're assuming I'll be reporting anything to the dev, and that is not the case. If you're talking to everyone that's fine, but if you're singling me out not cool. You quoted me in saying these things assuming that just because I made a topic I am going to do all these things, all I did was point out the thing exists. I didn't make any texture packs either I found them. I committed no crimes. I get tired of being the giunea pig for people when I did nothing wrong and had no hostility towards anyone but receive it when there is hundreds of other threads with absolutely no hostility existing between anyone, well expect to get it right back between the eyes if you or anyone tries to pull that on me. Just letting you know I'm no kid you can boss around. You have 74 messages on gbatemp, who are you that think you run things?
He obviously was not bossing around or anything like that..... Relax and don't get offended so easily.

I wasn't talking to you personally, I was talking to the community.
And as I said no offense was meant, but I experienced all this years ago and don't want it happen again.
Waited too long for this and actually also thought this feature won't come back, because Stenzek always used to say he doesn't care about it. So hopefully this time the feature will stay and improved over time.

I apologize, it was in the morning and I'm not a morning person and I took it the wrong way, but I did say if you're not talking to just me that's fine. Just be careful when you're quoting someone and saying don't do this or do that, it can be taken the wrong way.

Hello, sorry if this is a dumb question but will texture packs that where developed for Beetle PSX now work with this new Duckstation texture replacement feature?

I have no idea but you can try it, can you point me to where those packs are? If it's the same structure, I would think it would work.

PS1 HD TEXTURES Sure, this is the one I was considering using. Only thing is the creator made a charge so I am not sure if I want to pay for it yet. Especially if it won't work on Duckstation.

That's up to you but I would not recommend paying for those texture packs, especially without knowing if they work like you want. A texture pack is not worth $10 ever.

They can be found free on reddit also as people share them. I just don't know if I should link to that or not. But you can find them there.

I mean there are hundreds of PS2 texture packs being shared here I am not sure what the problem would be with sharing PS1 packs. I am looking but can't find them. I'll try them out if you would link me to them, otherwise I'm trying PS1 texture packs reddit on google and it just shows tutorials but not the actual packs to download.

No, they use different approaches and different hashing methods. If you intend to create a texture pack yourself, I would first try with DS. Beetles implemetation has many limitations and DS is all in all the better emulator. If you intend to load texture packs from others you will be bound to the emulator which the texture pack was created with.

would be awesome to see ff7 with HD texture packs.
I'd love to see FF9 with HD textures. However the switch version would probably easier to mod and give better results than the PS1 version. It's a shame that they took Ryujinx off, before the texture replacement feature was implemented. Well, maybe some of the forks will suceed

Do you know about the Moguri Mod? It is for the steam version of FF9. I haven't tried it yet but people seem to like it a lot.

i never even though of the switch having hd-texture pack update mods. that would be awesome and even better than ps1. the switch has tons of games that would be cool to check out with updated texture packs.

No point really again. Moguri mod does a 10x better job than any psone upscale of FF9 could possibly do. I say that with the sincerest respect, similar to how modding FF7 is literally pointless. Just get both on steam then mod both of those. Hell, even FF8 has a really good upscale if you get the installation right.

Modding psone games is exciting but i feel like the ones that should be done are ones that arent on pc (and probably wont be). Like Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Wipeout series, Medievil, Colony Wars series etc.
