Ryujinx emulator taken down after devs reach agreement with Nintendo

images.png

In what could possibly be the worst way to start October for emulation enthusiasts, as of just a few minutes ago the Ryujinx repository appears to be down, with the usual "404" message being given when trying to enter any of their related GitHub pages. Not even the main Ryujinx developer account seems to be active.

Currently there hasn't been any official reports as to why this occurred. None of the official social media accounts for the emulator have given any response, nor has any of the developers talked about why the repository is down, but we'll be sure to keep you updated whenever any new developments towards this situation are known.

UPDATE #1: Given the nature of the page being down with a 404 message, it's possible that this could be related to the removal of the Ryujinx account, and not a DMCA. If the repository suffered from a DMCA claim, then the DMCA notice would appear when entering the repository. However, that is not the case, and the DMCA listings from GitHub doesn't have any recent entries for Ryujinx.

UPDATE #2: The Ryujinx Discord server has paused invites for the moment, and additionally, one of the Discord mods posted the following message:
"To clarify, it's not a DMCA, it's not an issue with GitHub. Please wait for further information and refrain from spreading misinfo thanks."

UPDATE #3: According to an official statement on Ryujinx's Discord server, developer gdkchan was contacted by Nintendo and they were offered an agreement to stop working on the emulator project, and while the agreement wasn't confirmed yet, the organization has been entirely removed.

This marks now the 2nd and only main remaining Switch emulator that Nintendo has taken down as of today, and without any proper and clear protection when it comes to emulation and preservation down the road, it's likely that Nintendo will continue on its efforts to bring down emulation as a whole.

Does anyone know...what does Ryu do now for updates? I know there are no more as of now, but does it do nothing, or try to get an update when you start it and error message, or...?
Don't have it running right now,but there's probably a way to turn off auto updates in settings.

It will give an error as it's probably trying to reach the github/repo but there is nothing there. You con disable check updates on launch on the general settings

I have a large hatred towards money because how much it corrupts people to this very day, AND WHY we keep having global issues because of it, these monetary system is killing people who don't have enough and that is what pisses me off to this day.

When it comes down to the fight against nintendo, as we wish for them to do better by providing us the service we want, that they refused to do so because their evil sons of B***hes, I would not taken the money, I will continue the fight.

That money is finite, and people don't know how to spend it well and end up going to debt over it, then they go right back to where they where before the money, with lingering large debts, but this time excommunicated from the community that he betrayed for the money. The money is not worth it, a better global change is better. Money ALWAYS corrupts.
I never said anything about money

I suppose that when Nintendo comes knocking on your door, it's not to offer you money, it's obviously not a gift.

Yes, of course, he may have been offered a handsome sum, but what's the alternative? Go all the way to court? Is it fair to call the person a ‘traitor’ for that reason?
Because I know for a fact that right now it's very easy to call him a traitor, as if he owed you something. But what if he went to court against Nintendo? Who would have helped him? Hardly anyone. Who in their right mind would say to themselves ‘I'm going to put my next few years in the hands of an invisible internet community, 99.99% of whose members don't know my name and simply use my software to play games for free, and I'm going to rely on them to fund my legal battle against a huge Japanese company that has every interest in winning’?

You really have to have a lot of faith in the Internet to say that. And this little scenario, I wish it could have happened. I wish he'd told them to fuck off and that people would have got together to fund him a good lawyer. But I wouldn't go so far as to call the guy ‘corrupt’ because he finds it complicated to literally put his fate in the hands of people on the internet who basically just wanted to play video games.

Maybe I'm just too blackpilled about it. I'd love to be proven wrong.

im not trying to Linux pander as your OS is what you feel comfortable with but if i may, here's some food for thought and my 2 cents.
no need to port apps to linux, for the most part linux can run "MOST" windows EXE/msi files "Natively" once WINE (the compatibility layer that translates and runs windows apps in real time to linux) is installed. then you can just click exe's, install and run as a normal app (you just need to install dot net updates where needed) i got pokehex, switch toolbox and a plethora of small windows apps running in linux as if it was in windows. also, whats that save editor your talking about i want to give it a shot.
Of that 20% I quoted, about 60% of it won't run in WINE. I am fully aware of WINE's existence, I used to run Ubuntu in tandem with Windows 10, and am decently familiar with it. I'm also a programmer, and am only really proficient in C# with WinForms. I have written 3 save editors in the past using that setup, 2 of which I am planning on making updates to in the coming months. The projects are for Visual Studio 2017, and I have zero knowledge of QT and other UI frameworks, and would need to learn those, THEN rewrite my save editors from scratch. You literally cannot run Visual Studio on WINE properly, let alone run its build chain. Linux jumping is a no-go without getting the amount of software that cannot run in WINE currently being reduced by 95% at least (so that only 0.6% or less of my usual software won't run in WINE) to make me even consider jumping ship.

It needs to be clarified whether that's his own opinion of what actually happened or actual knowledge (ie gdkchan told him) of what went down.

Because from the sound of it, it seems like a personal line of thought/reasoning like everyone else's.

It's the same original, "official" source. Your desperation just hammers in the point even harder. I'm ruling out idiot.

That's some fallacy right there. You do know that a "source" is able to have both "actual knowledge" and "opinion" at the same time right? Does gdkchan tell him everything? I never once assumed nor said that the "source" would know everything.

Even when news of the agreement broke out, it didn't sound like he knew whether gdkchan actually accepted the agreement but inferred from the removal of the organization that he did. In other words, gdkchan did not speak to him directly beyond the existence of an offer.

While awaiting confirmation on whether he would take this agreement, the organization has been removed, so I THINK IT IS SAFE TO SAY WHAT THE OUTCOME IS

Look, I didn't reply to your other messages yesterday but at this point if N isn't paying you I really feel you should touch grass.
You had two (current by the time it died) devs including the one who put out the official announcement telling you the same thing, and to be fair even though I've mostly "retired" I've been for years in the Nintendo scene and made a lot of friends/connections here, one of which, as I mentioned, was a Ryujinx dev for a long time and they told me the same thing as these screenshots.

That still does not answer the question of whether his is an opinion or what gdkchan actually shared with him. As I said, he might not know everything and he can have an opinion of things at the same time.

I'm not ruling it out, but I it isn't exactly clear in that regard. If he says that gdkchan told him that, ok, I accept it.

Neverthelss, thank you for bringing up what that dev said.

Edit: As for the whole "N is paying you" accusation. That doesn't make sense. I want MORE INFO like everyone else.....something that big N wants less of to get out.

Once again, using the word fallacy doesn't make you right, and your arguments fail to compel reason. gdk themselves could make a public statement (which they're very likely prevented from doing), and you'd be once again moving the goalposts and going "well what if they're lying?". You've made up your mind and you're arguing polemics to ensure a particular point of view is seen and spread, which is why you're going out of your way to babysit this thread and respond to nearly anyone that remotely addresses what happened. Truly ridiculous. There's no other reason or motive to be pushing such doubt narratives.

No, you're making a false inference. They're choosing their language such as to not make direct statements that Nintendo could tie to gdk making private statements, because again, they are very likely not allowed to do so. If I tell you that I have a temporary offer of indemnification from a big corporation that would require me to do a bunch of stuff and then not talk about it and I do those things and stop talking about them, even a child knows what happened. This is so far beyond reasonable doubt.

If he says that gdkchan told him that, ok, I accept it.

He likely cannot say. So of course your new litmus for verification switches to something that would get him into legal trouble and would never happen. So quick to take something a source says to mean one thing, and when they themselves clarify, well now they don't know all the facts. It's transparent that you have a narrative to push.

If you agree that Nintendo wants less information to get out, how might they enforce that? An NDA. So, if he tells them this agreement exists, and suddenly can't tell them any more and complies with Nintendo's demands -- which were, per M.O., accept immediately or face consequences (and you seem to have been briefed on some of the leaks of flowcharts and internal docs despite trying to backhandedly discredit them, and suggest that talking about how Brazil crime orgs and police work to be "libellious") -- then it becomes clear. You've accidentally contradicted yourself in a pretty damning way. And I'm more and more sure that you're working for them, because absolutely no one is this dense. This just isn't a real conversation.

So go on and keep saying things, because you'll tell us what the talking points are, which makes identifying others easier.

As I mentioned in a previous post in relation to your "heard from someone", that's pretty convenient isn't it? Anyone can claim anything then. even if it comes from "official" sources.

"Choosing their language" doesn't make sense in that regard because if the premise is that ninty DOESN'T WANT ANY INFO to get out AT ALL, then gdkchan wouldn't be speaking to anybody about it for fear of someone having loose lips. On a similar basis, revealing info (eg "clearly a threat"), would still endanger gdkchan by virtue of it being out in public, regardless of whether it is attributed to him saying that, because the only way it could be out is if he told someone else about it. Otherwise, the only other logical possibility and defense to it would be that it is an opinion/inference by the person who said it.

So if this particular dev is able to reveal such a "fact", then he should be able to share that it was communicated to him as well.

As for the whole shebang about NDA, do we even know what is in the NDA?

I'm not going to even entertain the whole basket of conspiracy level theories you are dragging out.

Nah, it was linked, you're just pretending.

They talked beforehand. And NDAs are standardized nowadays. You already lost the argument with your contradiction, repeating yourself does nothing.

Get that Nintendo bag gdkchan! I don't blame them, getting paid for your effort and hard work put into stuff you've been working on in your free time is the dream isn't it? I still wish Nintendo would stop going after people uploading emulator gameplay, wtf, not cool, what part of Emulation is NOT ILLEGAL doesn't Nintendo understand?!
