The only thing I use my WiiU for is watching youtube on my tv using YouTube for TV in the Web browser (sign in using yt.be/activate link and code on another device). The youtube app stopped working years ago.

Could someone, or maybe a couple of people, be kind enough to go to youtube in the web browser (www.youtube.com/tv), sign in with the link and code youtube gives to sign in with through your phone or pc, and look at the thumbnail quality and see if the videos are suddenly locked at 360p quality for you, too? EDIT: Read my second post below when you load a vid.

Yesterday or last night to this morning, all the video thumbnails now look shit quality, and the only playback quality option is 360p max. Most ads are still playing at 720p, what it was playing at.

Thanks if you take a few minutes to check this. I need to know if this is just mine or if youtube screwed over everyone.

For me no video is playing at all with this method, so I downloaded the YouTube app instead (do not use the one from Nintendos servers, that one is an old, broken beta version), installed i. Also installed GiveMiiYouTube from the appstore: Works like a charm:

Yeah they should. Oh, I know.

Anyone trying this: I forgot to add, when you do this in browser and open a video, you get a black screen, maybe saying it's loading. Just keep hitting the "A"button until the video plays. It can take anywhere from a few A presses to like 10 seconds hitting A until it plays. Once the first video plays, all others after it will play normally until you reset the app.

Once in, don't hit the B or Back button on the first vid or go back to the first page when it loaded your account or it'll reload and sign you out. Scroll down to go back to the home screen, then it'll be ok. If you load a second vid, hitting back will go to the previous vid you watched. You do need to hit back to get out of some screens (try hitting D-pad left first), just don't go all the way back to the first page.

I can only repeat that the app + GiveMiiYouTube works just fine, so why even bother about the browser anymore?

Yeah, I see, but I don't have the stuff for this now. I just want help seeing if you do the above, sign in to YouTube for TV in the browser, click a video then keep hitting A on the black loading screen until it plays, does it suddenly make 360p the maximum quality when logged in?

Can you please try again, but keep hitting A to start the first vid and try a few other random vids after just to be sure it's more than the first one? To show the youtube vid page and options, hit A to pause and show the WiiU's vid player stuff on the gamepad, then tap "Close". I think you also can tap the bottom right button on the WiiU player, too.

I found that it plays at 720p when signed out, just like it should, but obviously then I see none of my subs, account stuff, and most vids won't play unless signed in because age restrictions.

I need to know if it's everyone that signs in through the browser version only, or if YouTube did something early to my account (which could just do the same in the app version) that may be coming soon to everyone using the app specifically on WiiU. The Web version info displays exactly the same info you see in the app version. It's only happening through the WiiU.

Ive spent probably 10 times what you have searching and researching and testing, you aren't posting anything I didn't already read. My request would take all of 3-5 minutes to confirm what I'm asking.

I need someone else to test it signed in through the browser version on wiiu (and keep hitting A to start the first vid) because that's not what's going on.

As I already said, when I go there, but instead of signing in, I just go to Home and play random videos as described above to get the first video playing, they all play 720p like normal. Then, without even closing or reloading, if I sign in, then suddenly all vids are limited to 360p. Then, if I sign back out, all vids are 720p again. So it's not because of the browser version. The web app shows what it detects even signed out in settings>app version. Being signed out so I can't see subs or most videos due to age restriction isn't a solution.

It only takes a minute to sign in and a few more to click random vids and check if the quality setting says 720p and it should show the blue HD on the WiiU video player. Can someone please take a few minutes to check while signing in to their youtube on this?

EDIT: Also, I already tried what that thread is about, I made the last post in it describing this better way in browser. Normal YouTube mobile and normal YouTube itself just won't finish loading at all anymore since that thread was created 4 years ago so it doesn't work.

So why should I confirm a known issue with a known fix while you refuse to even try the fix? Is it really that hard to try changing the useragent string? That actually takes 10 seconds of time but you want me to waste 3-4 minutes instead?

EDIT: Also, I already tried what that thread is about, I made the last post in it describing this better way in browser. Normal YouTube mobile and normal YouTube itself just won't finish loading at all anymore since that thread was created 4 years ago so it doesn't work.

Also, changing the UA to anything but WiiU or Wii redirects the page to normal non-loading youtube.

EDIT: Also, it is NOT a "known issue." "Vids only play at 360p while signed in to youtube for tv app in Wii u browser but play 720p when not signed in to on same" has never been posted anywhere. That thread isn't even about the YouTube for TV link, it's only about normal youtube in mobile mode.

Sorry, one more edit: Again, I need someone to confirm if it's doing this to everyone that uses the YouTube for TV ui link in wiI u browser while signed into their youtube account, or if youtube targeted just my account (meaning it still may in the WiiU YouTube app itself since it's loading the same page in a stripped down browser), because it's not doing it signed out. Please read what I've already said multiple times.
