Hello, I recently got a thinkpad T430 and decided to dual boot Arch Linux and Windows XP (horrid combo, I know) and decided to see how hard it would be to use ONLY Windows XP. Turns out, It isn't that bad, even a decade after it's End-Of-Support date. Hell, I even browsed this very site and made a post during then! Any questions? Ask away!

the guy in this deliberately disabled all security measures and then conntected to the open internet using a server forwarder software, a direct connection... and then proceeded to get a surprised pikachu face when he instantly got hacked, i've got a windows XP laptop i use frequently and it IS connected to the internet with the default firewall enabled and behind a router, i did a virus scan immediately after watching the video and there were no hits, people are taking this guy's video way too seriously
How actually useable was it in day to day tasks? I have to imagine there was a lot of setup to make sure it wasn't vulnerable, and to get a browser working on it that wouldn't get tons of errors.
I suspect if you can find a web browser that is still updated for XP it would be quite usable for day to day use.
Office 2010 supports XP, so you could easily get away with doing some actual work. Even older versions of things like Photoshop are quite usable in my opinion. (We are obviously ignoring the security risks / potentially opening malicious documents here).
So with that in mind what did you actually do on Windows XP for a month? was their anything you couldn't do? We're any websites you wanted to visit not usable?
there's still ways of getting it to work, given you can't play games that released after the specific steam update that does work and you need to do a lot of tweaking to get it to work again if you get any more games after the fact, but you can still get it to work
When you say a daily driver, what are using it for primarily? That can mean a few different things. Also run across any security issues yet or warnings about upgrading to a later version of windows?
Supermium, an open-source fork of Chromium designed to bring back removed features of chrome and to also extend compatibility with older versions of Windows, not only let me use it on such an old version, but also let me make it look like XP-era chrome too, so It was pretty much the best choice.
Not much time was needed to get everything needed, as most of the fixes came from the program Legacy Update, which not only revives the Windows Update service, but seemingly also works as a modern update client. (didn't look into that part as much), so I may be wrong) I also installed the Embedded POS-Ready updates to extend its support up to 2019.
I played a bit of the built-ins (especially Spider Solitaire and Space Cadet Pinball) and also some GTA:SA. (installed via a physical copy, love the manual-case combo)
Of course, there were a few things that Windows XP didn't understand -- like modern TLS & SSL -- but Supermium seemed to be fine loading most webapps, including ones like Discord.
I like this guys channel but I have to admit some of his videos are extremely misleading I used Windows 7 as a daily driver on my old laptop for a while before installing Linux on it and I watched Youtube and used Discord just fine.
