The Lynx on DS, is this project feasible?

Hello friends,

I'm asking a simple question and I want to clarify that it is not one request but just a simple question.

Yesterday with a friend we were discussing DS projects which unfortunately never generated much enthusiasm to result in something truly finished, I am thinking in particular of Vectrex, Apple2 or Odyssey2 emulation. In the middle of all this I remembered an attempt to port Handy (see link), the sequel to which we never saw the light (at least to my knowledge) hence my question: the Lynx on DS would this theoretically be possible ?

Sorry in advance for the inconvenience but I would like to tag a few members to get your opinions :)

I think it should be able to perform very well on the DS, the Handy source is a bit of a mess though so it's some work to just get it working on the DS. The SDL version I guess is a little bit better in regard to the source code structure.
I don't remember how high the cpu clock is compared to the NES, but that should not be a problem, the "unique" thing about the Lynx is that it doesn't have tiles & sprites like everything else but instead a blitter with zoom/rotation capabilities, that might take some effort to make fast.

There is handy for 3ds, which struggles to reach full speed on a o3ds. Most probably, due to insufficient optimization.
Therefore, i think that nds might run well, if the most intensive parts were rewritten in assembly code. There are a few talented coders floating around capable of that ;)

I am maybe completely off the mark by saying this because actually having no knowledge in coding, I recognize in advance I talk about things that are a little beyond me (and it is a sweet euphemism to say that^^) but in fact this questioning pushed me to inquire a little more about the Lynx emulation which, I admit, apart from Handy3DS and Mednafen, I knew nothing about. I discover that in fact Handy has its own derivative like Felix but there are many other more or less advanced emulators like Metalynx (which seems abandoned for a long time), a project that enlightened me on something I didn’t know (yet this is the basis and I should have started there) it is the Pantheon multi system. While browsing the site of this project, I realized that this multi systems emulator focused mainly on the emulation of the processor MOS 6502 emulates a large number of systems already ported to DS, It’s gonna sound silly but I never realized how common this processor was to so many systems.

I leave a link for those who would be interested in discovering this project:

I also put this link because by digging through the tools that were offered, there was a MOS 6502 processor emulator capable of importing the source code to assemble it and execute it step by step perhaps that could be useful for some of your projects :)

Hey @Indy13 , you've called on all the brainiacs and hacking bigwigs on this site: that takes some courage (or perhaps brazenness? 😅). I'm curious to see who else of them will respond to you and how. It would be nice if several excellent minds collaborated in this fun endeavor. 🤭
