The Last Of US (TV) fans are calling controversial Episode 3 best television episode ever

This article is completely spoiler-free.

The Last of Us is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a fungal pandemic has wiped out much of humanity. The story follows Joel, a hardened survivor, and Ellie, a young girl who is immune to the virus, as they journey across the country to reach the resistance group known as the Fireflies. Along the way, they encounter hostile survivors and dangerous mutated creatures as they attempt to survive and find a way to reach their destination. Throughout the game, the relationship between Joel and Ellie deepens as they rely on each other for survival and support. In the third episode of the TV series, new characters are introduced among which prepper survivalist Bill and his partner Frank.

The first episode of the TV adaptation aired on the 15th of January and received immense praise from fans and critics, currently standing at 9.2/10 on IMDB with over 50 thousand votes. The series itself is currently rated 9.3 by 115K users, making it one of the highest-rated TV series ever. But last Sunday, after the third episode aired, some reviews praised the episode as one of the best television episode ever.

Here are some of the headlines you can find in the press at the moment (beware - if you click the links you may get a few spoilers):
  • IGN: 10/10 - Episode 3 of HBO’s The Last of Us is a sensational hour of television.
  • Esquire - The Last of Us Episode 3 Is a TV Moment We'll Never Forget
  • Dexterto - One of the best TV episodes of all time
  • GamesRadar - An early contender for one of 2023's best episodes
  • CNet - A gut-wrenching masterpiece
I could go on. Yet, as you can see on the above IMDB ratings chart, with the high number of 1-star ratings, the episode stirred quite a controversy. If you have watched the episode, you can easily understand (but not necessarily condone) why a certain part of the population may have had a hard time with this episode.

What about you? Have you watched this episode? Are you one of the lovers, or the haters? Comments may contain spoilers - be ready for it. Most importantly, please stay civil and respect each other's point of views.

Honestly, really bored of headlines about homophobia containing the word "controversial". It is not. If it would be racists having a fit, we wouldn't call it controversial either. Just say what it is, homophobic idiots having a tantrum, because one episode of the show was about a gay couple. Boo hoo, go and watch the thousands of other shows not having any LGBTQ representation at all, or even containing homophobia.

Gotta get those clicks/views so stirring up shit where there isn't any is par for the course for modern media.

literally 1984 to call homophobic people homophobic

No, it's literally 1984 when I have to call a person with a penis a woman, I have to call an injection that doesn't prevent the spread of a virus (and potentially kills the patient) a vaccine, when politics have penetrated every form of media and WWIII is happening before my very eyes.

That's 1984.

This episode was just a side character story and was nothing to do with the game, next week will we have Tess's side story, or some other side story that was not really relevant to the game? The TV program is called "Last Of US", not the "Life and times of the Last of Us side characters". This episode was nothing more than someone wanting to push the gay agenda onto many people that don't want to read, see or hear about it - hence why many people have marked the episode down as it detracts from the game story. Maybe a better episode would have been to follow someone that had been alive that had been infected all the way until they had turned into a runner/clicker/bloater or shambler and all the victims they chomped on - until Joe blasted them with a petrol bomb then took their head off with a shotgun - that would have been a far better episode if we are going to go off script. A major bit in the game was in the gym in Frank's town when they encoutered a bloater - that should have been in this episode, but no, we had to focus on the gay stuff, which wasn't in the game at all.

The game was out years before covid, soooo, go figure. Also I guess you never watched UTOPIA? The UK version or the US version.
I know, but i wasn't referring about initial release, also that wasn't the point really.
What do you mean UK or US?

Michael Bay made a movie about Covid in December 2020.

Songbird it was called.

It's like they were excited to release the movie or something. 😆 Not very good, imo.

I guess they really liked the COVID... well good for THEM.
Me personally, id like to hear LESS COVID related bombardment stuff, at least for 5 years.
I need a serious mental detox from that shit. It wasn't enough that virus alone was annoying AF,
but media and everione made a circus out of it and constantly bombarder with info.
So excuse me if im a tad bit annoyed. But i do like Resident Evil though... weird i know.

Ah yes...the two genders: white Christian heterosexual male, and political.

1984 is about rejecting authoritarianism and fascism, not about how social and scientific progress is scary to the simple-minded.

Yes it was. The gay agenda can be really sneaky, if you're not more careful it's gonna get you

(alternatively: maybe not everything is about you, and some people in reality and fiction are just gay)

This is literally authoritarian and you're ignoring it. Shove it down their throat until they accept it. Speak out against it and you're labeled whatever, cancelled, life is ruined. It's something else.

good job avoiding the actual argument.
I don't care about the argument cause I'm literally not in it! The point was how hilareous it seeing someone call 'changing the definition of a latin word' "butchering the english language."

Ah, I see you're one of THOSE people. The people who refuse to acknowledge that theres a difference between sex and gender, who thinks the literal proof that the covid vaccine actually works is fake and made by "big pharma" to squirt microchips in your scrotum and that every time you see a gay person or someone with any race thats not white it must be political! Just go live in your basement and stare at your poster of trump for the rest of your life and let the rest of the world exist without you.

I don't know about the best episode on the planet. It entertained me for an hour +. I thought it was really well done. As far as the negative reviews I think all TV shows are unnecessary as they are make believe. Don't be afraid of the gays. They won't hurt you.
