Alright. I hate making a topic that has most likely already been covered but I searched and found no clear answer.

I just got a working 3 in 1 after my first one didn't fit and I have no idea how to set this up to work with the R4. Do I have to flash anything onto is via the R4 like firmware? What programs do I download? I just need a quick tutorial on what to do to set this up.

Also, is it normal for the pack to not be flush with the DS? It seems to protrude by just a TAD. Not by a lot but noticeable by touch.

Yes, this has been covered... Several times.

Yes, the fit is less than perfect. Everyone has the same complaint.

Use Rudolph's 3in1 Expansion Pack tool located in the Downloads section on this site.

3in1 Expansion Pack tool 1.9

You MUST use this to use the 3-in-1 with the R4.

Place the NDS file on your microSD card like any other ROM and then run it to access the 3in1 functions.

Here's a section of the Readme for that utility:

====== 3in1 Expansion Pack Tool V1.9 ======

This is a program for managing games, saves and features on the EZ-Flash 3in1 expansion
cart. It allows GBA games up to 16MB to be run from PSRAM, so you no longer have to flash
a game to NOR before you can play it.

Soft reset is supported on the R4/M3 Simply and the DSLink.
This allows rumble and browser support to be enabled without patches for these flashcarts.
It also allows the game in PSRAM to be used for DSGBA linkage.

English and Japanese languages are supported. If the DS is set to Japanese, the program
will use Japanese. Otherwise, the program will be in English.

====== Setup ======

You may need to apply the DLDI patch for your flashcart before using this app.
Version 1.9 is pre-patched for the R4/M3 Simply.

Create a folder named "GBA" in the root of your memory card, and create a folder named
"Save" inside the GBA folder. GBA backups go in the /GBA folder. Saves will be placed
in the /GBA/SAVE folder.

GBA frames are supported. The 3in1 ExpPack Tool will look for "gbaframe.bmp" in the /GBA
folder and the /_system_ folder, in that order. Frames must be 8-bit or 24-bit bitmap
files with a resolution of 256x192.

Games with EEPROM and 512kbit Flash save types need to be patched with the EZ4 Client or
GBATA. Games with 1024kbit Flash save types need to be patched with the EZ4 Client.

There, now go have fun...

Thanks a lot! Again, sorry for being another one of those guys to ask an answered question but I didn't wanna screw anything up.

I set it up and tested everything (ROMs, RAM, and Rumble) and they all work flawlessly. I do have a couple of questions regarding GBA play, though.

1) Is there anyway to speed up the ROM loading? Currently it takes about 10 - 15 seconds to load a game. This is in no way a complaint, just want to know.

2) What's the difference between PSRAM and NOR apart from the file size of the saves (and how do I know what a game saves at)?

Anyway, I thank you once again for the quick and helpful response! I'm glad I got a working one of these after about 2 months of waiting!

You may want to check out the EZ-Flash subforum for those questions.Â

They know a little more than some people in the R4 threads. Like me, for example.

I thought about that but I came here since I was running it on the R4 and just thought it'd be better to ask here. It's working fine right now, I just had those two questions about the software.

Yah, that does make sense.

I guess that the loading time depends on the size of the GBA ROM you're loading. I ain't no expert, just a theory that I have. Like my Metroid Zero Mission takes forever to load.

Alright, so I have a problem after using this for a bit today. Whenever I try to save Donkey Kong Country, it says, "Save Failed". So I tried loading the game with NOR. Same thing.

Am I unable to save this game at all or am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: I figured it out. I needed to patch it with the EZ4 client and now it seems to work fine. But this brings up another question: how do I know what games need to be patched? Is it games with a save option?

Patch games with a save option excluding games which use SRAM for saves.

use gbata 0.7 final instead of ez4 tool, load the rom into the program, go to the SRAM tab, if its lit then it needs patched, if its not lit then no patching needed.

There are some games that will not work without a IPS patch which can also be done with this program, also there are some other games that have conflict like all the classic nes games will report a error, its hard to find but there are some patched versions out there that work. Another game is Super mario advanced 4 which has to have a save file included (128KB file), it still shows a error but it will work, don't create more than 1 save game though cause 2 or more will corrupt save file.

edit: psram will be deleted if u remove power, Nor will stay if you remove power and is good if you play 1 game commonly and can also be played on another DS without the R4.
